Overview
UGL Utilities team designs, constructs and maintains critical infrastructure across the power, water and renewable sectors – including HV substations, transmission lines up to 500kV, power stations, wastewater treatment plants, and water pipelines.
About the role
Flexible location options in Sydney, Brisbane or Perth. You will supervise and provide technical leadership to professional engineers, act as the principal technical authority, and coordinate with other technical staff. The role offers the opportunity to focus on technical work or progress into people‐management responsibilities.
Key responsibilities
* Provide feedback to the Head of Engineering regarding resource levels, performance and staffing.
* Lead a team of engineers to deliver projects within their area of expertise.
* Assist the Head of Engineering in determining budgets and schedules.
* Monitor budgets and schedules for the areas under your control.
Key areas of substation design
* Substation configuration and busbar schemes (single, double, 1.5CB, etc).
* Plant layouts, sections and details.
* Busbar and connection design – fittings, selection (rigid, stranded), forces, sag, tension, deflection, arrangement.
* Clearance and layout requirements for safety, fire, transportation and maintenance.
* Underground services – trenching, conduits, cable route capacity.
* Earthing design – fundamentals, soil/grid testing, current splits.
* Specification and technical particulars of HV equipment and buildings.
* Design of BESS, solar and wind farms.
* HV cable design.
* Lightning protection.
* EMF and corona studies.
* Insulation coordination – SA selection, insulation selection.
* Lighting design.
* System planning, fault calculation, power quality and harmonics.
Key areas of electrical design of transmission lines
* Transposition and impedance calculation.
* Insulators, conductors and fittings.
* Electrical clearances.
* Earthing design.
* Lightning and switching performance – SA selection, insulator selection.
* Noise study.
* EMF and corona study.
* Low‐frequency induction (LFI) study.
