About the Opportunity

South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD) is proud to support a strong team of Aboriginal Mental Health Workers across the district.

We’re currently recruiting for a position within the Community Mental Health Team at Campbelltown, focused on supporting Aboriginal families and children accessing mental health services in the Macarthur region. You’ll also have the opportunity to assist Aboriginal people engaging with other mental health services across the district.

This role is embedded within clinical teams to enhance Aboriginal consumer engagement and contribute to both cultural and clinical outcomes. You’ll also help promote cultural responsiveness among fellow clinicians and community services — ensuring care is inclusive, respectful, and effective.

If you're enthusiastic, authentic, and committed to delivering high-quality, culturally responsive care, this opportunity is for you.

Why Join Us?

At SWSLHD, we offer a workplace that is:

- Rewarding – Make a meaningful impact every day.
- Progressive – Be part of a forward-thinking health district.
- Diverse – Work in a vibrant, multicultural environment.
- Purpose-driven – Help us achieve our vision: Leading Care, Healthier Communities.

What Youll be Doing

The primary role of this position is to provide culturally safe, recovery orientated evidence-based assessment and interventions to clients of the mental health service who identify as Aboriginal and their families.

Working within the multi-disciplinary team process, the role will also undertake mental health promotion and community liaison tasks in support of the development of culturally appropriate mental health services within the SWSLHD.

In negotiation with SWSLHD, undertake appropriate further education to develop the necessary competencies of a Mental Health Professional.

Where You'll Be Working

SWSLHD Community Mental Health Services provide comprehensive, community-based mental health care across South Western Sydney. These services cater to different age groups, including children, adolescents, adults, and older persons, ensuring specialised care throughout various life stages. The multidisciplinary teams offer a range of supports, including mental health assessments, crisis intervention, care coordination, and therapy. They work closely with inpatient services, GPs, and other community organisations to provide holistic care.

The focus on community health and wellbeing makes SWSLHD Community Mental Health Services an ideal place to work, providing opportunities for professional growth and the chance to make a meaningful impact on the community.

- Tell us about your mob and connection to culture.
- Willingness and ability to complete further education in Mental Health or relevant qualification e.g., Certificate IV Mental Health; Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health) qualification at Charles Sturt University or an equivalent clinical qualification negotiated and approved by the Mental Health Service.
