Primary objective
The Assistant Principal provides high quality educational leadership to improve the educational outcomes of students, develop and maintain quality
teaching and learning programs. The Assistant Principal works strategically, collaboratively and successfully with the school’s principal, teachers,
students, community and stakeholders.
Context statement
Nightcliff Primary School is a large, diverse and innovative school located in the northern suburbs of Darwin, catering for students from Preschool
to Year 6. The school is future-focused and dynamic, delivering high-quality teaching and learning through the Early Years Learning Framework

Key duties and responsibilities
1. In collaboration with the Leadership Team, build the capacity of teachers to implement a contextually relevant curriculum using evidence-
based teaching practices to lead, monitor, and coach school-wide staff teams in the delivery of whole school learning programs and
pedagogical practices.
2. Provide educational leadership in the development of curriculum, assessment and the school's pedagogical model and practices, and
provide appropriate input into professional development of staff in areas such as Explicit Instruction in Mathematics and English.
3. Support the Leadership Team in the provision of the most effective human, financial and physical resources per departmental policy, to
meet the identified needs of the school community. Including managing the daily organisation of the school, including staff absences
and timetabling.
4. Provide advice, through ongoing monitoring and reporting, to the principal, on strategic, educational and administrative matters to
achieve quality educational outcomes.
5. Undertake a teaching load as required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Registration with the NT Teacher Registration Board and current Working with Children Clearance Notice (Ochre Card) or ability to obtain.
2. Demonstrated experience in strategic leadership that has resulted in the development of sustainable strategic school improvement,
leading to improved student learning and wellbeing outcomes.
3. Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of curriculum, assessment, and student wellbeing with the ability to achieve inclusive evidence-
based whole school teaching and learning programs, for a diverse learning cohort.
4. Demonstrated ability to lead and model evidenced based high impact teaching practices and be committed and capable of leading
pedagogical change aligned to the school's Strategic Plan and vision including the Science of Learning and Explicit Teaching Practices.
5. Demonstrated leadership skills to build capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams in line with human, financial and
physical resources.
6. Demonstrated exemplary communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build visible strengths-based leadership
relationships with external agencies, and engage students, staff, parents, and the wider community in the school's improvement journey.
Desirable
1. Relevant training in School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS), restorative practices, and Read Write Inc.
2. Relevant post-graduate tertiary qualification in educational leadership or equivalent.
