Purpose of the Role
The Senior Mechanical Engineer supports the Maintenance Manager by overseeing daily maintenance activities and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and company policies for each area of responsibility. This is a leadership role responsible for the design, integration, and technical integrity of the maintenance compliance framework. Highly proficient in Fleet Management Systems, this role provides technical oversight, performs root‐cause analysis on systemic failures, and ensures that maintenance strategies are compliant with regulatory standards and engineered for maximum asset reliability.
Qualifications
* Tertiary qualifications in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
* Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) or Lead Auditor qualification – highly desirable.
* C-Class Drivers Licence.
* White Card.
Experience
* 3years of experience in civil or tunnelling construction.
* Demonstrated experience in the maintenance management process, using CMMS or comparable systems.
* Experience in planning and resourcing of maintenance activities.
* Proven experience in large‐scale infrastructure, heavy plant, or similar environments.
* Previous experience leading a team of five or more employees.
Required Competencies
* Advanced knowledge of mechanical and safety regulations for NSW.
* Expert‐level proficiency in CMMS/FMS systems and advanced data visualisation tools (e.g., PowerBI) – preferred.

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities
* Develop and refine maintenance engineering frameworks to ensure structural compliance across the full asset lifecycle.
* Design maintenance schedules that leverage reliability‐centred maintenance (RCM) principles to minimise downtime while exceeding regulatory requirements.
* Lead the creation and technical review of Standard Operating Procedures and Scope of Works for high‐risk maintenance activities.
* Lead the technical defence of maintenance strategies during external regulatory audits and serve as the subject‐matter expert for industry standards.
* Lead investigations into compliance breaches or equipment failures, implementing engineering solutions to prevent recurrence.
* Proactively identify compliance gaps in the fleet and develop long‐term Corrective and Preventive Action plans.
* Oversee the technical integrity of the Fleet Management System, ensuring data hierarchy and reporting structures provide actionable insights.
* Utilise advanced data analytics to monitor Mean Time Between Failures, Mean Time to Repair and other KPIs to validate the effectiveness of compliance programmes.
* Supervise and mentor Maintenance Compliance Officers and support staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence.
* Design and oversee the delivery of advanced compliance and safety training programmes for the wider maintenance department.
* Act as the primary technical liaison between Engineering, Operations and other Departments to ensure a cohesive approach to maintenance.
