Intensive Care Registrars – Royal Hobart Hospital
Department of Critical Care Medicine (DCCM) at Royal Hobart Hospital is recruiting Intensive Care Registrars for the 2027 year – 1 February 2027 to 7 February 2028. Applicants should be in post‐graduate year 4 or more in 2027 to apply. The positions are for accredited trainees with CICM, ANZCA, ACEM, RACS or ACRRM, or junior doctors who wish to gain experience assessing and managing critically ill patients.
The ICU is a Level 3 tertiary centre offering a broad medical and surgical casemix including cardiac surgery, ECMO, neurosurgery and major trauma. The 24‐hour CICM accreditation allows trainees to develop competence across a wide range of conditions and procedures. Two 12‐bed pods operate on day‐night shift work and are supervised by Fellows, Senior Registrars and Consultants.
Responsibilities
* Day‐to‐day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the allocated site or facility.
* Provide after‐hours emergency care as determined by the relevant work unit.
* Participate in a robust time‐protected teaching program, including journal club, simulation and bedside teaching.
* Contribute to safety and quality initiatives such as monthly morbidity and mortality meetings.
Essential Requirements
* General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable).
* Full AHPRA registration in accordance with the Essential Requirements.
Desirable Criteria – ICU Registrars
* Previous clinical experience in Intensive Care Medicine, Anaesthesia and/or Emergency Medicine, including procedural skills.
* Successful completion of practical acute care and resuscitation courses such as ALS, BASIC, APLS, EMST and formal Point of Care Ultrasound training.
* Accredited trainee status with CICM, ANZCA, ACEM or ACRRM.
* Experience in audit, research, teaching and safety and quality.
* Experience in leadership roles within or outside of work.

* High level oral and written communication skills.
* Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
* Ability to function well in stressful situations and adapt to different work environments.

Salary
$138,978 – $194,675 per annum. Salary range is in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025.
