About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Solicitor to join a community based Civil Practice team in Adelaide. This is a rewarding opportunity to work on complex and impactful matters in family law and child protection, supporting Aboriginal families and communities. You will manage a diverse caseload, appear in higher courts, and contribute to mentoring junior staff, while playing a key role in advancing culturally safe legal practices.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide high-quality, professional, and culturally appropriate legal advice, representation, information and education in family law and child protection matters
* Conduct complex legal matters including hearings and trials in the Adelaide Youth Court, Federal Circuit and Family Court
* Manage a large caseload of complex matters with minimal supervision
* Support and mentor junior staff (informally and formally)
* Contribute to law reform and policy development through the Civil Practice Director
* Apply organisational and Attorney-General's Department policies in delivering legal aid services
* Assist with accountability, funding submissions and reporting requirements
* Liaise with legal service providers, government agencies and stakeholders
* Promote a collaborative, respectful and culturally safe work environment
* Support clients and colleagues from diverse backgrounds with professionalism and cultural sensitivity
What You Will Bring
* Admitted (or eligible for admission) as a Solicitor or Barrister of the Supreme Court of South Australia & admitted as a practitioner of the High Court of Australia
* A current, unrestricted South Australian Practising Certificate
* Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Solicitor
* Strong experience in family law and child protection
* Proven ability to manage complex casework, including higher court matters
* Deep understanding of the historical, cultural, and legal systems affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
* Demonstrated commitment to culturally appropriate, client-centred legal services
* Strong interpersonal, advocacy, negotiation, and strategic thinking skills
* Ability to manage competing priorities in a high-volume environment
* Collaborative approach with demonstrated leadership and mentoring capability
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal practice systems
* Currently hold or willing to obtain a satisfactory National Criminal History Check, working with children's check and working with vulnerable people check
* A current South Australian Driver's License
