Tadpole Studios is a small video production company that specialises in making short-form vertical video for politicians and advocacy organisations. Our thing is entertaining while explaining - i.e content that's sharp, fast, and watchable, not the usual political wallpaper or OTT lo-fi videos you see on TikTok. Think the pace of news, the polish of documentary, and the instincts of a good reel, all in 9:16. If that sounds interesting to you, please read on.
We're after a Sydney-based video editor who is comfortable with a DSLR to join us — part-time / freelance to start, with real room to grow into something bigger for the right person.
WHAT YOU'D DO:
* Cut vertical short-form for social - fast turnaround, scroll-stopping hooks, tight pacing
* Take raw footage (interviews, pieces-to-camera, b-roll) and shape it into compelling emotional stories.
* Work across both quick reactive pieces and more produced, explainer-style video series
* Jump on the occasional shoot day if that's your thing (not essential)
WHAT WE'RE AFTER:
* Strong editing chops in Premiere Pro
* A real passion for vertical video (you understand retention, hooks & storytelling)
* Speed without sloppiness - you're comfortable shipping good work on a tight clock
* Story sense and curiosity: You can find the one line that matters in a 40-minute interview and string together a coherent and impactful message.
* Based in Sydney and up for some in-person time in Surry Hills
NICE TO HAVE:
* You can shoot with a DSLR as well as cut
* Motion graphics / text animation with After Effects
* An interest in politics, civics, or the news - you don't need to be an expert, but caring helps
* Familiar with the Johnny Harris / Vox explainer style
THE SETUP:
* Small, founder-led studio - you'd work directly with me
* Part-time / contract to start
* Genuine creative ownership and the chance to grow as the studio does
