Avondale University is seeking applications for a full‑time (38 hours per week) or part‑time (35 hours per week) Library Technician – Experience to join the library team on the Lake Macquarie campus for an early January 2026 commencement. This role will work primarily at the Lake Macquarie Campus Library with a regular shift at the Sydney Campus Library.
About the role
This important role is responsible for coordinating and supporting the delivery of frontline library services and engagement activities that enhance the student experience and ensure access to information and resources. The position coordinates interlibrary loans and document delivery, manages and processes serial publications, supervises Library Student Workers, and contributes to library communications and engagement activities.
What will you do?
- Coordinate frontline user and customer services: ensure high‑quality service at the Lake Macquarie Library for loans, returns, user accounts, and support functions.
- Manage resource access and sharing services: coordinate interlibrary loans, document delivery and student resource requests across campuses and online.
- Manage and process serials: oversee acquisition, maintenance, cataloguing and end‑processing of serial publications in print and electronic formats.
- Coordinate library communications and engagement: design and deliver library communications and promotional activities, including print and digital content, signage, displays and engagement campaigns.
- Maintain reserve and equipment collections: develop, maintain and optimise reserve and equipment collections at the Lake Macquarie Library.
- Deliver student consultations: provide one‑on‑one appointments and consultations for students, supporting information literacy and library research skills.
- Support academic liaison activities for assigned disciplines: review unit outlines and proposals, develop Subject LibGuides and discipline‑specific resources, and contribute to digital learning objects.
- Deliver high‑quality frontline support: participate in rostered desk duties and user support services across circulation, reference and research support.
About you
To be successful in this role you will be a highly motivated individual with solid interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Essential criteria
- Relevant qualifications and/or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- High level of organisational and administrative skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and in a team environment.
- A strong service ethic and customer service experience with the ability to respond professionally and sensitively to diverse service needs.
- Demonstrated ability to use a range of information technology and software packages related to collections, administration and customer‑facing technologies.
- Knowledge of, or interest in, best practice and current trends in frontline library service delivery in an academic environment.
- Experience in providing information and reference consultations and advice, preferably in an academic library.
- Demonstrated commitment to cultural diversity and a working knowledge of equity and WHS principles.
- Support the mission, values and ethos of Avondale.
Desirable criteria
- Eligibility for Associate or Technician membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) or progress towards this qualification.
- Experience in an academic library environment or similar.
- Current Driver Licence Class C.

Salary: Avondale Higher Education Worker Level 4 – $73,619 – $77,340 per annum, plus superannuation.
