Registrar, General Surgery – 2027 Training Year
The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking interested, suitably qualified applicants for unaccredited registrar vacancies within the Department of General Surgery for the 2027 training year.

Salary: $134,930 – $189,005 per annum (in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022).
Classification: Medical Practitioner Level 5‐11 (Registrar/Senior Registrar).
Award: Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award.
Period of Employment: Fixed term, full‐time, day work – 76 hours per fortnight (+ 10 hours protected training time per fortnight pro‐rata), commencing 1 February 2027 to 7 February 2028.
Location: Surgical Services, Royal Hobart Hospital.
Duties and Responsibilities
Managing acute/emergency cases as part of the Department of General Surgery's Emergency Surgical Unit (ESU); providing after‐hours emergency cover; participating in outpatient and elective services; gaining exposure to major sub‐specialty areas (colorectal, UGI, HPB, breast, endocrine) and rotations (10‐week rotations in Paediatric Surgery or Trauma, and exposure to Vascular Surgery after‐hours). The registrar will also be involved in teaching and research activities.
Essential Requirements
* General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
* Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable).
* Pre‐employment background checks: conviction checks for crimes of violence, sex‐related offences, serious drug offences, crimes involving dishonesty, identification check and disciplinary action in previous employment.
