DLAP Caseworker - Aboriginal Communities Support Program
Taree Indigenous Development and Enterprise transitioned to Barray Alliance
Location: Taree, NSW
Barray Alliance is an Aboriginal-led, community-focused not-for-profit organisation dedicated to empowering people and families across the Mid North Coast. We deliver programs that create meaningful opportunities and positive change within our communities.
We are currently seeking a DLAP Caseworker to support our Driving Licensing Access Program (DLAP). This role plays a vital part in helping disadvantaged and Aboriginal communities gain the skills and confidence to obtain, retain, and regain their driver’s licences.
About the Role
As a DLAP Caseworker, you’ll work directly with learner drivers, providing in-vehicle training and culturally appropriate support. You’ll be helping participants build safe driving skills and access important licensing initiatives, creating life-changing opportunities for independence and employment. Your role will go beyond driving lessons – you’ll be walking alongside participants through every stage of their licensing journey, from preparation to testing.
Key responsibilities
- Delivering safe and supportive driving lessons tailored to individual learner needs.
- Facilitating and assisting with online practice tests, ensuring participants are ready for their exams.
- Supporting participants with licence paperwork and applications, including taking them to the Service NSW/RTA to submit, book, and complete tests for their learner’s licences (L’s).
- Booking and facilitating provisional licence (P’s) tests, helping participants progress to independent driving.
- Assisting with fines and Traffic Offender Intervention Programs, providing guidance and support to help participants get back on track.
- Planning and discussing driving sessions to suit individual learner goals and challenges.
- Completing learner driver logbook entries and program reporting requirements.
- Facilitating access to programs like the Safer Drivers Course and 3-for-1 professional lessons.
- Ensuring drug and alcohol checks are completed before each session if required.
- Maintaining compliance with WHS policies and safe driving practices.
- Providing culturally respectful, empowering, and practical support throughout the process.
What We’re Looking For
To be successful in this role, you’ll need to meet the following requirements:
- Age: 21 years or older
- Licensing: Current unrestricted NSW Class C licence or current NSW Class C Driving Instructor Licence
- Driving history: Held a licence for at least three of the last four years (including P1 or P2)
- Checks: Satisfactory traffic and criminal record; willing to undergo a police character check; Working With Children Check
- Training: Completion of the TfNSW Helping Learner Drivers Become Safer Drivers workshop (or willingness to complete before starting at the expense of Barray Alliance)
Why Join Us?
- Make a direct, positive impact on people’s lives and their futures
- Be part of a supportive team passionate about community empowerment
- Help deliver a program that builds skills, confidence, and independence
- Flexible, rewarding work in a role with real purpose
To keep our team and community safe, you’ll need a explicit Working With Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Check. We’ll cover the cost and help you through the process, but both checks must return clear results before you start. Please note that these must be renewed every 12 months, and employment is conditional on maintaining clear checks at all times.
This is a designated position for persons of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. An applicant's race is a genuine occupational qualification and is authorised under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
