McArthur is seeking a Payroll Officer to deliver high-quality services to a Local Government client. The role will involve processing payroll transactions, providing frontline support on payroll queries, and preparing relevant reports. This is a casual opportunity offering full-time hours each week up until March 2027, located centrally in Hobart.

* Casual Rate $45.34 - $51.91 per hour

To be considered for this position, you must have the ability to obtain a clear National Police Check and provide proof of full working rights.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide quality payroll advice and support including enquiry resolution and responding to error identification with corrective action being undertaken.
* Under the direction of the Senior Payroll Officer, support the accurate and timely processing of payroll transactions.
* Ensure the payroll configurations of each employee are correct, and the data used in payroll transactions is accurate to maintain payroll data integrity.
* Using the HR and payroll system, the payroll function, and other computer-based tools, prepare and provide routine reports.
* Assist with the testing of software upgrades for payroll and identify problems and make recommendations in respect of payroll functionality.
* Regular data entry into the payrolls from timesheets and other sources each pay period for payroll processing.
* As required, update internal work procedures and payroll forms ensuring that the correct template is used and that documents are reviewed before release.
* Maintain the Payroll section of the People and Culture intranet site and ensure payroll documents are current and accessible.
* Actioning emails in the Payroll inbox, some of which may require research and investigation.
Selection Criteria
* Certificate-level qualifications in Payroll, Human Resources, Finance or Accounting.
* Demonstrated experience in assisting or supporting in the end-to-end payroll function of a medium or large organisation.
* Excellent track record with time management, including the ability to multi-task in a high-volume work environment.
* Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and strong problem-solving skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Navision.
