Primary objective
Lead and manage Pharmacy services for Central Australia and Barkly Region (CAR/BR) acute care hospitals within accepted professional
standards and allocated resources. Provide expert advice, leadership and strategic direction, at local, territory and national levels, for
medicines management policy, program and pharmacy service delivery.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Participate and represent NT Health/CAR/BR on national and territory-wide committees, working groups, forums and conferences, to
inform policy, research and program development in Pharmacy services at local, territory and national levels.
2. Provide clear direction and expert advice on the quality use of medicines and medicines management systems within a highly complex
cross-cultural environment to General Managers, Executive Officers, Chief Operating Officer and other stakeholders.
1. Directly lead, manage and participate in acute care pharmacy services using sound human resource and financial management practices
to optimise efficiency and meet department and national policy, program and financial requirements.
4. Coordinate and deliver high level professional development and clinical supervision programs, and leadership succession planning for
staff working in acute care pharmacy services.
5. Develop and coordinate the implementation of legislative requirements, policies, procedures and guidelines related to medicines
management for acute care hospitals.
1. Provide strategic leadership in the design, development, implementation, evaluation/research, monitoring and reporting of evidence-
based Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) initiatives and pharmacy services.
7. Liaise and negotiate with a wide range of stakeholders to develop high level partnerships and strategic alliances that support the
development of policies, professional development, and strategies that reflect contemporary QUM principles.
1. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in
order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
9. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree or equivalent in Pharmacy, post-graduate qualifications in a field relevant to Pharmacy or Health Management, and
registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia.
2. Extensive working experience in hospital pharmacy and in hospital pharmacy management or similar.
3. Ability to provide expert advice on the interpretation of all legislation relating to the use of medicines.
1. Expert knowledge of and experience in applying NSQHS Standards and Quality Use of Medicines principles in acute care.
2. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and computer literacy, including the ability to communicate and liaise effectively
with internal and external stakeholders.
6. Demonstrated leadership, negotiation and change management skills including the ability to develop and maintain trust, establish clear
goals and exercise fair and objective judgement.
7. High level knowledge of and experience in human and financial resource management.
8. Demonstrated ability to direct and manage program and policy development and plan, implement, evaluate, review and report on
Pharmacy service projects within budget and prescribed timeframes.
9. Highly developed knowledge and experience in working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
