About the role
As a Trainee Signal Construction Technician, you will support the delivery of major rail projects across the state. This role is critical to ensuring the safe and efficient installation of signalling equipment and systems as part of Victoria’s Big Build and other network improvement programs.
As a trainee you will work Monday to Friday on a day shift. You will also be required to work away from home, as well as occasional night shift and weekend work.
During your traineeship you will be required to attend our training department in Wendouree for a full week every 4 weeks.
The traineeship takes roughly 18 months to complete. During this time, you will be on a trainee rate of $67.31 per hour.
Key responsibilities:
- Install signalling and communications equipment individually or as part of a team.
- Investigate and report on incidents related to signalling systems.
- Commission new signalling systems as part of projects and upgrades.
- Apply technical knowledge and judgment to resolve problems in line with regulations and policies.
- Work on construction sites, during major network expansions.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver seamless customer service.
- Be flexible to work day, afternoon, or night shifts and travel across Victoria as required.
About you
You're a qualified electrician with a solid foundation in industrial systems, and you're ready to take your skills trackside. Whether you've worked in manufacturing, heavy industry, or infrastructure, you understand the importance of precision, safety, and keeping operations running smoothly.

- A Certificate III – Electrotechnology or an A Grade licence.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Meet V/Line’s Rail Industry Worker safety benchmarks.
- Current full Driver's Licence.
