About The Role
The Secure Extended Care Unit (SECU) in Ballarat provides longer‑term, recovery‑focused care for consumers requiring 24/7 mental health and psychosocial rehabilitation. As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 2, you will deliver evidence‑based care within a supportive multidisciplinary team, contribute to a positive and collaborative unit culture, and support leadership activities that enhance service quality, Safewards practice and consumer outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver holistic, evidence-based nursing care to consumers and carers within an inpatient mental health setting
* Complete biopsychosocial and risk assessments and develop treatment plans aligned with recovery goals
* Support therapeutic programs, including group and individual psychosocial interventions
* Maintain accurate documentation, communication and clinical handover in line with GH policy
* Contribute to a safe, therapeutic environment and support reduction of restrictive practices
* Participate in supervision, student support, quality improvement and portfolio responsibilities
* Work collaboratively within the SECU multidisciplinary team across rotating morning, afternoon and night shifts
Skills & Experience
* Registered Nurse with AHPRA registration; postgraduate mental health qualification desirable
* Strong knowledge of recovery-oriented practice, less restrictive practice and the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022
* Experience in inpatient mental health or bed‑based settings
* Effective communicator with strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
* Organised, adaptable and able to manage competing priorities

This position is paid in accordance with the Victorian Public Mental Health Services Enterprise Agreement. The classification is Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 2 (NP21 – NP26) which ranges from $36.10 – $46.38 per hour.
