Casual Guide — Baird Bay Experience

Location: Baird Bay, Eyre Peninsula, South Australia

Employment Type: Casual (Approx. 30–40 hours per week, season October–April)

Love the ocean? Passionate about wildlife and creating unforgettable moments?

Join the team at Baird Bay Experience, where every day brings guests face-to-face with sea lions, dolphins, and the raw beauty of South Australia's Eyre Peninsula.

About the Role

As a Guide, you'll help deliver one of Australia's most intimate marine encounters — assisting guests in and out of the water, sharing your passion for nature, and ensuring every experience runs safely and smoothly.

This is a seasonal, hands-on role that blends adventure, hospitality, and guest connection. You'll assist with guided boat tours, support guests during wildlife swims, and contribute to the smooth running of lodge operations — from daily prep and maintenance to welcoming guests with warmth and care.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the daily setup, safety checks, and presentation of the vessel

• Support in-water wildlife encounters — guiding, observing, and assisting guests

• Deliver or assist with pre-departure safety briefings

• Engage with guests, sharing insights into marine wildlife and the region's heritage

• Serve beverages and handle POS transactions when required

• Help maintain lodge and vessel cleanliness and organisation

• Contribute to a positive, safety-first, and team-oriented culture

What You'll Bring

• Previous experience in tourism, hospitality, or guest service

• Strong swimming ability and confidence in open water

• Friendly, outgoing personality and strong communication skills

• Safety awareness and attention to detail

• Passion for the environment, wildlife, and outdoor adventure

• Comfortable working and living in a small, remote community

Qualifications

Essential on commencement or willingness to acquire:

• Shipboard Safety Skill Set

• RSA – Responsible Service of Alcohol

• Remote & Isolated First Aid + Oxygen Therapy

• Current Driver's Licence (LR preferred)

• SA Passenger Vehicle Driver Accreditation

• Background in Tourism, Hospitality, or Marine Biology desirable

Why Join Us?

• Spend your days on the ocean in one of Australia's most stunning coastal settings

• Work with wild sea lions and dolphins — no two days are the same

• Be part of a small, passionate, and supportive team

• Competitive casual hourly rate

• Accommodation included

• Opportunity to return each season and grow your experience in marine tourism

Please note: This is a casual seasonal role with employment offered for the duration of the current season only. While there is no guarantee of ongoing or future work, additional opportunities for seasonal employment may become available and suitable candidates may be considered for future seasons.
