About you

What You'll Do
* Cover a diverse range of stories — from breaking news to community features
* Interview key stakeholders and uncover stories that matter
* Work closely with the Editor and newsroom team to meet daily deadlines
* Contribute to digital and social media platforms to expand audience reach
* Work under high pressure and be flexible with work hours
What We're Looking For
* Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing news cycles
* Strong interviewing and communication skills
* A sense of urgency and commitment to meeting deadlines
* Passion for local news, with an interest in government reporting highly regarded
* Existing digital production skills or a strong desire to upskill in social media and multimedia journalism
Essential Requirements
* Strong writing and communication skills, with a knack for spotting news stories
* Highly motivated, positive attitude, and strong teamwork ability
* Confidence in taking photographs and filing news for online platforms
* Tertiary qualifications in journalism or a related field are preferred
Responsibilities
* Gathering and writing original news stories for publication in print and online platforms
* Developing positive relationships with key people and organisations
* Breaking news stories and creating engaging content
* Contributing to news planning meetings and liaising with the Editor regarding story development
* Interviewing and photographing subjects confidently and professionally while representing the Company in a courteous manner
