The Team Occupational Therapy Services at Hospitals North West provide high-quality, client-centred occupational therapy to inpatients, outpatients and community clients across the North West region of Tasmania. The team works as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare environment, supporting consumers across medical, surgical, rehabilitation and orthopaedic services, as well as paediatrics and community-based programmes. As part of the Department of Health, the service is committed to delivering safe, inclusive and evidence-based care to improve outcomes for individuals, families and the broader Tasmanian community.

The role We are seeking motivated applicants to work as part of the Occupational Therapy leadership teams to inspire and grow the next generation. You will promote a positive learning organisation culture through coordinating student placements that offer exceptional learning opportunities and experiences across a range of areas of practice and different practice settings. You will also collaborate with other clinicians in the team to support new graduates during their early career years. As part of the leadership team, you will make a significant contribution towards the Department of Health’s strategic priority to build and develop a sustainable and positive workforce that we need now and for the future.

You will need

A commitment to delivering person-centred, safe and culturally responsive care

Demonstrated knowledge of, or a strong foundation in, contemporary Occupational Therapy theory and the ability to apply this in hospital, outpatient and community settings

Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team

Details of appointment Fixed term, part time, day worker position, working 30.4 hours per fortnight, commencing from 13 July 2026 until 9 July 2027. Hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant. Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary $123,717 to $134,336 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount. Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Union Wages Agreement No.2 of 2022. Access to salaries beyond $130,900 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme.

Salary Packaging You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Professional Development Allowance of up to $1000 per annum

Benefits available to eligible candidates

Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.

Eligibility

Satisfactory completion of an appropriate allied health professional course of study at a recognised tertiary institution and registered with the relevant National Board or, in the case of self‑regulated allied health professions, eligible for membership with the relevant professional association.

Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).

Desirable criteria:

Five or more years post‑graduate experience as an allied health professional including experience in supervising and supporting pre‑entry students and new graduate allied health professionals.

Holds, or is currently working towards, postgraduate qualifications in education and or clinical teaching and learning.

Current Driver’s license.
