As an integral part of our expert consulting business, we operate a mine sample laboratory in Castle Hill, northwest Sydney.
Responsibilities
EGi is seeking an experienced Analytical Chemistry Laboratory Technician to join our laboratory team. The role supports high‐quality analytical testing and geochemical assessment for mining, environmental, and mine‐closure projects across Australia and internationally. This position suits a technically competent laboratory professional who values data quality, safe laboratory practice, and working collaboratively in a consulting‐focused environment. Key responsibilities include:
Laboratory Operations
* Perform routine and specialised sample preparation for environmental and geological materials including soils, tailings, waste rock, sediments, and waters
* Conduct wet chemistry procedures such as digestions, extractions, leach tests, and titrations (e.g. acid digestion, SPLP/TCLP‐style leaches, ANC/NAG methods)
* Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation as applicable, including auto-titrators, leach columns and pH/Eh measurement equipment
Quality Assurance and Control
* Apply laboratory QA/QC procedures including blanks, duplicates, spikes, and certified reference materials
* Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks, worksheets, and electronic records in accordance with company and ISO‐aligned quality systems
* Assist with method development, validation, and review of analytical results prior to reporting
Sample, Data, and Client Support
* Receive, log, track, and manage samples under strict chain‐of‐custody requirements
* Liaise professionally with job managers, external laboratories, equipment suppliers, and external laboratory technicians
* Enter, check, and manage analytical data using spreadsheets, reports, and internal databases
And to generally support standard laboratory operations.
About You
Applicants must be eligible to reside and work in Australia.
Experience
* Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar commercial laboratory environment.
Qualifications
* A science degree from a recognised institution (bachelor level), ideally with a major in chemistry.
Skills
* Confident use of Microsoft Excel and Word for data handling, reporting, and documentation
* Experience using database systems for result collation and reporting, LIMS or similar
* Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey technical information
