As a Mechanical Diesel Fitter with Wilmar Sugar & Renewables, you'll play a critical role in keeping our rollingstock and mobile plant operating safely and efficiently. Working as part of a skilled maintenance team, you'll service, repair, and maintain diesel systems and associated equipment that support our large-scale sugar and renewable energy operations.
This role is based at Proserpine Mill in Queensland's Whitsunday Region, a vibrant area known for its coastal lifestyle, strong community, and access to the Great Barrier Reef.
This is a permanent full time position based at our Proserpine Mill which requires working on a night shift roster during the crushing season (approximately June - December), including potential for weekends and overtime and day work during the maintenance period (approximately Jan - May).
Your Role in Action
1. Keeping the Fleet Running: Service, diagnose, and repair diesel engines across locomotives and mobile plant, including MTU, Mercedes, and other key engine types to ensure reliable performance.
2. Powertrain Perfection: Maintain and repair automatic transmissions (e.g. Allison systems) and drive units to support safe and efficient equipment operation.
3. Hands-On with Heavy Gear: Perform maintenance and repairs on a wide range of mobile plant including forklifts, cranes, trucks, loaders, tractors, and related equipment.
4. When Things Break, You're On It: Respond to breakdowns, troubleshoot mechanical issues, and complete timely repairs to minimise downtime and keep operations running smoothly.
5. Build It. Commission It. Make It Work: Support the construction and commissioning of locomotives and brake vans, including assisting with fit-out and system integration work.
6. Safety First, Team Always: Work safely at all times, complete required documentation accurately, and collaborate with team members and technicians while supporting apprentices and maintaining high standards of work quality.
Your Winning Combination
To succeed in this role, you will hold a Certificate III in Mechanical Engineering (Diesel Fitter or Motor Mechanic) and/or Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology. You will bring proven experience working with diesel engines, mobile plant, or heavy mechanical systems, ideally within industrial, transport, or similar environments. Strong fault-finding skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively in a team are essential, particularly during high-demand crushing seasons.
