Primary Objectives
The Business Analyst supports the company by providing business analysis across their operating model, process, system, data and regulatory workstreams. The role ensures separation impacts and requirements are identified, documented and progressed, and provides practical support to establish a viable standalone Energy Solutions business while preserving value and reducing execution risk through the divestment process.
Role Responsibilities
Business and Operating Model Analysis
* Map current state and future state operating models across in-scope functions, identifying business dependencies, process gaps, control impacts and transitional requirements needed to establish a viable standalone business.
* Identify and document dependencies across retail, commercial, projects, systems, reporting, finance, regulatory obligations and support functions, and work with stakeholders to define practical separation solutions and sequencing.
* Support assessment of transitional service requirements, including where current processes, systems, data, registrations, controls or support functions remain embedded in the broader retail business and require interim or permanent replacement arrangements.
* Develop and maintain artefacts required to support separation delivery, including process maps, impact assessments, requirements documentation, dependency registers, decision logs, options papers and implementation actions.
Market, Regulatory and Commercial Analysis
* Provide input and analytical support on energy market regulation, with particular focus on C&I customers, retail market interfaces, DER/CER participation models and the regulatory settings of the business.
* Interpret relevant market rules, regulatory obligations, procedures and reform initiatives to assess business impacts, separation implications and future state capability requirements.
* Work with commercial, finance and operational stakeholders to analyse options, quantify impacts, surface risks and support decisions that balance compliance, practicality, timeframes and value preservation through the transaction process.
Process, Systems and Requirements Analysis
* Elicit, analyse and document business, functional and non-functional requirements across IT systems, operational workflows, reporting, controls and customer processes relevant to the carve-out and future state operating model.
* Work across business and technology teams to translate operational needs into clear requirements, user stories, process designs, data definitions and solution options that can be delivered pragmatically within transaction timeframes.
* Support testing, business readiness and implementation activities, including traceability of requirements, validation of process outcomes, issue management and go-live support where required.
Financial, Data & Business Insight
* As required, undertake financial, operational and data analysis to support internal decisions.
* Analyse data sources, business rules and reporting outputs to identify impacts of system or process change.
* Support the development of management materials and insight packs that enable leadership to make informed decisions.
Stakeholder Engagement & Delivery Support
* Act as a key interface between business, IT, operations, commercial, finance, legal and regulatory stakeholders, ensuring issues are understood, decisions are informed and actions progress at pace.
* Facilitate workshops, interviews and working sessions to clarify ambiguity, challenge assumptions, align cross-functional stakeholders and progress practical outcomes in a complex and fast-moving environment.
* Take a hands-on, delivery-oriented approach to problem solving, moving fluidly between strategy, process, systems, regulation and commercial analysis as needed to help the program maintain momentum and resolve issues.
* Escalate risks, blockers and unresolved decisions early, with clear framing of impacts, options and recommended paths forward.
Key Communications & Working Relationships
* Internal: Energy Solutions leadership, IT/Digital, Finance, Legal, HSSE, retail operations and other shared service teams involved in the carve-out.
About You
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
* Demonstrated experience in senior business analysis, target operating model design, business transformation or separation/carve-out activity in a complex, cross-functional environment.
* Strong knowledge of the Australian energy market, with particular understanding of utilities, retail energy operations, DER/CER models and relevant regulatory frameworks.
* Strong understanding of retail back-office processes and the interaction between commercial, operational, financial, regulatory and system workflows.
* Ability to map current-state and future-state processes, identify dependencies and control impacts, and develop practical options to support transition and implementation.
* Excellent stakeholder engagement, workshop facilitation and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
Qualifications & Licences
* Tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Engineering or a related discipline is desirable.
* Relevant business analysis, project delivery or change-related certification would be advantageous.
* Demonstrated industry experience in the Australian energy, utilities or retail energy sector may be considered in lieu of formal qualifications where appropriate.
