Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (WACHS) is an Aboriginal community-controlled health organisation that aims to empower Aboriginal people to take control of their individual, family, and community health and wellbeing needs through our clinical and community programs.
Our main services are in Wellington, Dubbo, Western Sydney, Penrith, Nepean, and Blue Mountains, and we provide outreach services to other towns and communities through our regional programs.
About the Role:
The Australian Family Partnership Program (AFPP) is an evidence-based program for women pregnant with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander baby.
The Nurse Home Visitor (NHV) works to deliver culturally safe, responsive, and respectful home visits to women pregnant with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander baby and their families in GWAHS Mount Druitt.
Key Responsibilities but not limited to :
- Willingness to work towards Child and Family Nurse qualification
- Robust interpersonal and communication skills
- Maintain accurate records and data for the client
- Promote child health and growth
- Provide education and information
- Participate in reflective supervision to enhance clinical practice and emotional resilience
- Ability to engage young women from diverse to vulnerable backgrounds
- Awareness of culturally responsive and trauma informed approach
- Clinical knowledge or experience in maternal and child health
- illingness to travel for Home Visits with FPW
- Work in partnership with FPW for all clients
Experience, Qualifications & Licenses:
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse or Midwife with AHPRA.
- Demonstrated ability to form relationships and work effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander clients, families, and co-workers. This includes a demonstrated awareness of, and sensitivity to Aboriginal culture and history, Aboriginal primary health care, and current issues affecting the lives of Aboriginal people and communities
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, and lead a team, including computer skills - email, word processing and electronic health records.
- A Current National Police Check.
- A Current Working with Children’s Check NSW.
- Current Driver’s License that allows you to drive in Australia.
