In this role you will supervise, coordinate and provide leadership to the Histology specimen dissection service and mortuary in the Anatomical Pathology Central laboratory to ensure that all laboratory practices comply with Pathology Queensland requirements in providing an effective, efficient, client focused service for the RBWH, QCH, STARS and all hospitals and clinicians who use our service.
What you'll do Supervision and coordination of specimen dissection division and mortuary services including but not limited to training scientific and operational staff, coordinating medical and technical staff, maintaining workflow, management of consumables and equipment, quality responsibilities, troubleshooting, rostering, and performing professional appraisals of subordinate staff.
Provide expert advice to peers and relevant stakeholders on professional, scientific, resources and operational issues relating to service provision and provide after-hours support and advice on complex scientific and technical issues Assist with strategic planning for the provision and delivery of Pathology services to the state of Queensland, including forecasting of space, staff and equipment needs in the future as the service develops in concert with the Pathology Queensland Strategic direction.
About you We are searching for someone who has: Demonstrated high level experience in histology processes, with a focus on knowledge of effective management techniques and expertise to supervise scientist cut up training program.
Demonstrated understanding of the needs of a histology laboratory and mortuary service as to ensure the maintenance of professional clinical standards and adherence to established principles and procedures.
Proven ability to exercise independent scientific judgement in providing advice to peers, anatomical pathologists, surgeons, clinicians, and other internal and external clients impacting patient care and service delivery.
Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to train and educate staff while actively participating in and contributing to continuing education and other professional development activities.
Proven ability to develop and apply scientific practices and actively contribute to research activities within the service and externally through collaboration with other disciplines, research groups and universities.
Demonstrated ability to initiate and implement quality and service improvement activities to continually improve patient care in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.
The successful applicant must hold at least a Bachelor of Science relevant to the field (or equivalent) from a recognised university or tertiary institution.
