Position Overview
Department of Health, Hospitals & Primary Care – Hospitals Sth – Hospital Support Services. The role is located at the Royal Hobart Hospital within the Department of Health Tasmania, at the Cambridge Production Centre.
The cook works as part of the Food Services team, preparing and producing meals for patients, staff, and visitors, ensuring compliance with food safety, hygiene, and clinical requirements.
The Role
In accordance with hospital policies, guidelines and food safety legislation, the holder prepares and produces meals for all clients and assists with cleaning of the facility and its equipment.
Responsibilities
• Produce large‐scale meals, portioning, and distribution in a fast‐paced kitchen environment, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and compliance with health regulations.
• Apply food safety and hygiene standards, ensuring all procedures meet legislative and internal requirements.
• Support patient wellbeing through wholesome meal preparation, accommodating special, therapeutic, and dietary requirements.
Required Skills & Experience
* Knowledge and experience in large‐scale food preparation, production and cooking operations, demonstrating ability to comply with Food Safety Standards.
* Understanding of special dietary requirements and therapeutic diet procedures.
* Effective written and oral communication skills and the ability to comply with codes of practice and procedures.
Appointment Details
Permanent, full‐time day worker; 76 hours per fortnight, not working weekends but working public holidays. Hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant. The role commences as soon as possible.
Salary
Band 3 – Health and Human Services (Tasmanian State Service) Award, General Stream. Remuneration of $76,849 to $82,996 per annum, with a 12% superannuation contribution on top. Salary packaging offers a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year where eligible.
