About the Role

The Deputy Director, Communication is a multifaceted role which provides oversight of the successful delivery of strategic communication and storytelling for the District along with direction and leadership for the Communication team.

The Deputy Director actively manages day-to-day operations in Communication and also works in collaboration with the Director, Communication to provide high-level advice to the Chief Executive and Executive Team on issue and reputational management, and to develop and oversee key communication strategies in line with the District's strategic priorities.

Ideal Candidate

* Tertiary qualifications and/or extensive professional experience in a senior role in Corporate Communication, Public Relations, Journalism or a similar field.
* Demonstrated experience managing a team of senior communications professionals to achieve key outcomes.
* Experience developing and implementing communication strategies and preparing briefings and reports on complex matters.
* Exceptional writing skills and an ability to use storytelling to engage and inform.
* High-level negotiation and delegation skills and an ability to think strategically and creatively to manage issues in a time-sensitive environment.
* Proven high-level communication skills and ability to establish and strategically manage relationships with senior staff and external stakeholders.
* Advanced knowledge of communication channels and processes, including digital platforms.
