About this role
The AOD Data Systems and Analytics team provides technical and analytical expertise to develop and manage AOD data assets, clinical information systems, data collation, reporting and visualisation tools, and deliver data governance and integrity assistance. The team works with a range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the availability of reliable and accurate data and improve the use of data across the AOD sector.
The Data Analyst plays a critical role in understanding and utilising current and emerging NSW Health administrative data systems. The role will explore raw data and transform it into structured, meaningful concepts and formats for reporting and analysis. Strong stakeholder engagement and communication, working closely with managers, data custodians, system owners, and end users, are essential.
This is a temporary, 12‐month opportunity with the potential to become ongoing.
What you'll be doing
* Lead the development and management of AOD data engineering and analytics projects to ensure relevant and reliable data is available and accessible, facilitating monitoring and evaluation of services, and informing decision‐making, planning and financing.
* Coordinate and manage data governance, data collection methodology and data reporting activities using state‐wide clinical information systems and AOD data assets.
* Undertake analysis of AOD data and assess and advise on the relevance of findings and their potential impact.
* Develop data analytics tools and visualisations to support strategic use of data across the Ministry of Health and the AOD sector.
About you
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in data management, information technology, or other related disciplines, or demonstrated professional experience.
* Technical proficiency in SQL for data extraction, transformation, analysis, and highly skilled in writing complex queries, stored procedures, views, functions, and optimising query performance across large datasets in Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle or other databases.
* Experience in Power BI, including data modelling, DAX, Power Query, visual design and publishing.
* Hands‐on experience with ETL/ELT pipelines and the flow of data from source systems into the warehouse, with a solid understanding of dimensional modelling concepts (facts, dimensions, slowly changing dimensions).
* Significant experience in data analytics and management of complex data systems for policy and systems analysis, performance management or reporting business outcomes.
* Good soft and technical communication skills.
* Ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
* Experience with NSW Health data systems highly regarded.
