Canberra Rape Crisis Centre

Canberra Rape Crisis Centre (CRCC) is a non-government, not for profit organisation working to eliminate sexual violence against adults and children of all genders. CRCC provides free, professional and confidential counselling and support for victim survivors of sexual violence, and their families, who have experienced any form of sexual violence recently or in the past.

CRCC is seeking a qualified, experienced and values driven Clinical Director to lead the strategic, clinical and operational direction of our clinical and program services supporting victim survivors of sexual violence. The Clinical Director is responsible for ensuring safe, trauma informed and high quality evidence informed services across CRCC’s clinical programs.

Clinical Director

The Clinical Director provides strategic, operational and clinical leadership across CRCC’s counselling, crisis response and therapeutic support programs. The role is responsible for leading a multidisciplinary team, ensuring safe, high quality, trauma informed service delivery and contributing to organisational strategy, service development, compliance and continuous improvement. This is a senior management role requiring advanced professional judgment, high level decision making and responsibility for the effective performance of the clinical work.

The Clinical Director will hold master level qualifications and have senior leadership experience in a similar role. This position involves both direct clinical work with clients and supervision of clinical staff, with a focus on continuous professional development and ensuring that services meet the organisation’s strategic and operational goals and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership and Supervision

● Lead and oversee the clinical teams, ensuring the effective, trauma informed, and compassionate delivery of services.

● Provide regular clinical supervision, guidance and professional support to counsellors, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment.

● Ensure clinical services are in accordance with ethical standards, national standards, trauma informed framework and best practice guidelines.

● Provide expert advice and direction on complex or high risk cases.

● Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development.

Client Care and Therapeutic Support

● Provide professional, high quality counselling, crisis intervention, advocacy, and support to victim survivors of sexual violence and their non offending supporters.

● Oversee and assess client progress, ensuring treatment plans are evidence based, trauma informed and adaptable.

● Develop and implement therapeutic interventions and treatment programs.

● Collaborate with healthcare professionals, external agencies and service providers to support holistic client care.

Service Development and Quality Assurance

● Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of counselling services, using feedback and evidence based practices to drive improvements.

● Lead to the development and review of the model of care, clinical policies and procedures to enhance service delivery.

● Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, policies and organisational standards.

● Ensure clinical staff provide accurate records of clinical supervision, case notes and other relevant documentation.

● Report all WHS risks, complex issues, client complaints and staff risks to the CEO.

Organisational and Administrative

● Determine priorities and monitor workflow within the team to ensure effective service delivery to clients and management of client waiting lists.

● Manage and prepare reports for clients and external bodies such as subpoenas.

● Manage and lead relationships with external stakeholders in relation to clinical treatments, trauma informed therapeutic frameworks and victim response.

● Lead the counselling and crisis staff and ensure they are informed of changes to work practices, service requirements and professional developments.

● Serve as an escalation point and emergency contact, ensuring availability to address urgent clinical issues as needed.

● Deep understanding of and commitment to ethical standards, confidentiality, and trauma-informed care.

Required Skills and Qualifications

● Master in Psychology, Social Work or Counselling from an Australian or recognised equivalent university.

● Experience in a Clinical Director role is preferred.

● A minimum of two years staff supervision experience.

● Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams across counselling and crisis intervention programs.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications

● Registration with a relevant professional association.

● Experience applying trauma-informed frameworks in the context of sexual assault.

● Expertise in complex trauma treatment and intervention.

● Strong knowledge of child safety standards and relevant legislation.

● Demonstrated experience in management and leadership roles.

● Experience facilitating therapeutic groups.

Working Conditions

● Full-time on an ongoing basis.

● Evening and weekend work as required.

● On-site or external locations as required.
