About the team
The Pharmacy team at Peter Mac plays a key role in supporting high quality patient care, incorporating all facets of innovative clinical pharmacy practice. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, the pharmacy team provides a comprehensive patient‐focused service for all Peter Mac patients, ensuring the safe and timely delivery of all treatments, including clinical trials. With a strong focus on innovation, quality and collaboration, the team contributes directly to advancing cancer treatment through research and improving outcomes – keeping patient care at the centre of everything we do.
About the role
As a Grade 3 Pharmacy Technician, you will acquire an intricate understanding of, and develop specialty practice in, ambulatory and ward‐based cancer pharmacy services, cleanroom operations and imprest stock control. You will also enjoy working in a busy, team‐based environment when striving toward providing excellent patient care.
Key responsibilities
* Maintain accurate patient and dispensing records.
* Uphold excellence in pharmacy standards and practice.
* Ensure compliance with legislative requirements, regulations, policies and quality standards.
* Participate in the management of the pharmacy imprest system, including stock level audits, data entry and stock distribution.
* Prepare non‐sterile and sterile pharmaceutical products, including compounding, labeling and quality control.
* Support the clinical pharmacy team in medication management and provide assistance during staff absences.
* Adhere to Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) policies and procedures, completing incident reports and emergency training.
* Maintain a standard of excellence in accuracy, efficiency and professional conduct across all duties.
About you
You will be someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, who is able to build strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
Qualifications and experience
* Certificate IV in Health (Hospital Pharmacy Technician) or equivalent.
* Three years of full‐time hospital technician experience.
* Well‐developed organisation and prioritisation skills.
* Previous experience in oncology pharmacy practice is highly desirable.
* Completion of a valid cytotoxic training course and experience with aseptic and cytotoxic preparation.
* Knowledge of pharmacy procurement processes and standard operating procedures.
* Ability to work under the direction or supervision of a pharmacist and to adapt to flexible working hours, including occasional weekend work.

Position Summary
To participate as an active member of the pharmacy team to provide safe, rational and cost‐effective pharmaceutical care for patients, staff and others by arrangement.

Key Relationships

Skills
* Completion of Certificate IV in Hospital or Health Services Pharmacy Support or equivalent.
* VCE or equivalent with a maths subject.
* Keyboard skills with some computer experience.
* A minimum of 3 years' experience as a hospital pharmacy technician.
* Willingness to be flexible in working hours, including weekend work from time to time.
* Ability to work under the direction or supervision of a pharmacist as a member of the pharmacy team in accordance with legislative requirements and Pharmacy Board of Australia Guidelines.
* Experience in all key operational areas of hospital pharmacy.
* Experience and training in pharmacy procurement processes.
* Experience with aseptic and cytotoxic preparation, completion of a valid cytotoxic training course.
* Personal attributes including: development of effective working relationships, flexibility, integrity, commitment and loyalty, organisational skills.
Key Accountabilities
* 1. Imprest stock control and maintenance – Operation of the pharmacy imprest system, stock audits, data entry, stock assembly and delivery.
* 2. Packing and compounding – Non‐sterile and sterile manufacturing, quality control and label preparation.
* 3. Support the work of the team and department – Assist in all pharmacy operational areas, support training/mentoring of other technicians.
* 4. Adhere to OH&S policies and procedures – Ensure a safe environment, complete incident reports, attend training.
* 5. Maintain a standard of excellence in all areas – Uphold accuracy, responsibility, SOP compliance and professional conduct.
