We're looking for a Software Engineer with experience in Kubernetes to join our team focused on delivering improvements to the Bitbucket Pipelines platform.
Bitbucket Pipelines is a fast‑growing product that uses lightweight Kata VMs in Kubernetes and Java‑based services for orchestration and provisioning. You will work with the latest infrastructure technology, applying software engineering and infrastructure principles to deliver secure, fast, interactive customer experiences.
Responsibilities
- Build and ship features and capabilities daily in a highly scalable, cross‑geo distributed environment.
- Collaborate with experienced engineers, architects, product managers, and designers in an open environment.
- Review code with best practices for readability, testing, documentation, reliability, security, and performance.
- Mentor and level up teammates through knowledge‑sharing sessions.
- Ensure complete visibility, error reporting, and monitoring of high‑performing backend services.
- Participate in Agile software development, including daily stand‑ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, and demos.
- Report directly to the Engineering Manager.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience building and developing backend applications.
- Experience crafting and implementing highly scalable, performant RESTful microservices.
- Proficiency in a modern programming language (Java, Kotlin, Go, Scala, or Python).
- Experience with container and orchestration technologies, specifically Kubernetes, Docker, or ContainerD (2+ years).
- Fluency in a database technology (RDBMS like Oracle or Postgres, or NoSQL like DynamoDB or Cassandra).
- Functional knowledge of compute infrastructure (Linux, networking, etc).
- Broad understanding of SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS with hands‑on experience with public cloud offerings (AWS, GAE, Azure).
