We are seeking a practical, hands‐on Agronomist to join our Berries team based in Coffs Harbour. This field‐focused role involves working directly with farms and growers to improve crop health, yield, quality, and consistency across raspberry, blackberry, and blueberry operations.
Key Responsibilities
Field‐Based Agronomic Support
* Conduct regular on‐site farm visits across assigned berry farms.
* Weekly visits for Rubus crops (raspberry & blackberry).
* Monthly visits for blueberry crops.
* Increased frequency during peak production, planting, or crop issues.
* Plan and manage an efficient regional visit schedule.
* Conduct detailed, block‐level crop assessments during each visit.
Crop Monitoring & Practical Advice
* Scout crops for pest, disease, and physiological issues.
* Provide clear, practical, in‐field recommendations for pruning, trellising, canopy and crop training.
* Provide recommendations for irrigation and water management; nutrition and fertiliser programs.
* Identify risks early and work with farm teams to implement corrective actions.
Harvest & Quality Support
* Support farms with harvest timing, picking practices, and quality outcomes.
* Align agronomic decisions with market and supply requirements.
* Help protect yield and consistency across the supply chain.
Grower Engagement
* Act as the primary agronomic contact for assigned growers.
* Build strong, trusted relationships through regular on‐farm engagement.
* Communicate agronomic advice clearly, confidently, and in a way that is easy for farm teams to understand and apply.
* Adapt advice to crop stage, grower capability, and seasonal conditions.
* Respond quickly and pragmatically to changing field conditions.
* Record site observations, crop performance data, and recommendations after visits.
* Contribute to yield forecasting and supply planning inputs.
* Feed insights back into agronomy programs and improvement initiatives.
Compliance & Best Practice
* Ensure compliance with WHS, food safety, and chemical stewardship standards.
* Promote best‐practice agronomy across all farms.
About You
* Degree in Agronomy, Agricultural Science, Horticulture, or related field.
* Strong understanding of horticultural production systems (open field and/or protected cropping).
* Experience in crop monitoring, irrigation, nutrition, and pest/disease management.
* Strong analytical ability with confidence interpreting field and yield data.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage confidently and professionally with growers and farm teams.
* Highly personable, approachable, and able to build strong working relationships in a field‐based environment.
* Fluent English communication skills, able to clearly explain technical information in a simple, practical, easily understood way.
* Ability to influence, problem‐solve, and deliver practical outcomes in a fast‐paced environment.
* Comfortable working autonomously across regional farm sites.
