About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Unaccredited General Surgery Registrar to join our dynamic and collaborative General Surgery team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to step into increased clinical responsibility while preparing for Surgical Education and Training (SET). You will work within a supportive, patient-centred environment, contributing to high-quality care across inpatient, outpatient, operating theatre, and endoscopy services. The position is designed to help you build the skills, experience, and competencies required for a future surgical career. You will also participate in after‐hours, on‐call, and recall rosters, and contribute to clinical reporting and patient management across the unit.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide timely assessment and management of urgent and emergency surgical presentations
* Participate in all clinical services, including operating theatre, outpatient clinics, and endoscopy
* Assess, diagnose, and develop management plans for surgical patients
* Monitor and review patient progress, adapting care as required
* Recognise and manage deteriorating or critically unwell patients
* Supervise and support junior medical staff, including HMOs and interns
* Facilitate effective discharge planning, including coordination with community services
* Ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation, including medication histories and care plans
* Participate in clinical handover, referrals, and multidisciplinary collaboration
* Work within professional scope and adhere to organisational policies and procedures
What We're Looking For
* Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and eligibility for registration with AHPRA
* Minimum 3 years' experience as a Hospital Medical Officer in the Australian healthcare system
* Relevant postgraduate experience in General Surgery or similar clinical settings
* A strong commitment to pursuing a surgical career (SET pathway)
* Demonstrated clinical knowledge, practical skills, and professional integrity
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
* Willingness to participate in after‐hours, on‐call, and recall rosters
