Offer description

BEC-IWP is the Western Australian business of Bajwa EnviroConsult, a specialist environmental consulting company originally established in Victoria.

BEC-IWP operates as a joint venture between Bajwa EnviroConsult and IW Projects, trading as BEC WA Pty Ltd. The business brings together Bajwa EnviroConsult's environmental consulting, landfill, compliance and approvals experience with IW Projects' long‐standing presence in the Western Australian waste management sector.

IW Projects has been operating in the waste management consulting space for approximately 20 years, with experience supporting waste operators, local governments and private industry across a broad range of waste infrastructure, approvals and operational projects.

Together, BEC-IWP provides specialist environmental engineering, landfill, waste management and regulatory consulting services across Western Australia and nationally.

We work closely with our clients to support the planning, approval, design, construction and compliance of waste infrastructure projects.

Our work is primarily focused on the waste sector, with a strong emphasis on landfill engineering, environmental approvals, licence amendments, clearing permits, construction quality assurance, technical assessments, site investigations, design documentation and reporting.

What we offer

Career development: You will be supported to develop your technical skills across Civil 3D, landfill modelling, bulk earthworks, design documentation, quantity assessment and construction support.

Practical project experience: You will work on real design and construction projects, including landfill cells, capping works, embankments, containment systems, drainage infrastructure and waste facility upgrades.

Specialist industry exposure: You will gain experience in a technical and growing area of civil and environmental consulting, with a focus on landfill, waste infrastructure and geotechnical structures.

New in‐house capability: This role has been created as we bring more 3D modelling, civil design and drafting capability in house. You will have the opportunity to become a key technical resource within the business.

Training and development: Additional training will be provided upon request where it supports your development and helps strengthen the company's modelling, design and drafting capability.

Broader BEC group exposure: Over time, this role is expected to become the go‐to modelling resource for BEC‐IWP, BEC Eastern Region and BEC Victoria, providing exposure to a broader range of projects, teams and technical challenges.

Flexible working: Standard office hours are generally 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, although flexible working arrangements are supported. Working from home may be available in consultation with management following successful completion of probation.

Room to grow: As a growing business, there is opportunity to take on responsibility, broaden your technical capability and grow with the company.

Your opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Civil Designer / 3D Modeller to join our Perth‐based team.

This is a new role within BEC‐IWP, created as we bring more 3D modelling, civil design and drafting capability in house. The successful candidate will play an important role in developing this capability and will have the opportunity to become the go‐to modeller for BEC‐IWP, BEC Eastern Region and BEC Victoria.

This role is suited to a modeller, drafter or civil designer with practical experience in 3D design modelling, in particular for bulk earthworks, landfill design, tailings dams, embankments, containment systems or other geotechnical and civil infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will be proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D and will be capable of turning engineering discussions, sketches, levels, design criteria and mark‐ups into clear 3D models, drawings and quantity outputs. Civil 3D is the company's preferred design software, however candidates with strong experience in similar civil modelling software and a willingness to work primarily in Civil 3D will also be considered.

You will support engineers and project managers by developing 3D models, design surfaces, drawings, quantity outputs and digital design files. A typical task may involve being asked to model an embankment, calculate the required quantities, prepare a 3D model and issue DXF or DWG outputs. Another task may involve modelling a landfill cell filled to a nominated top of waste level at a specified batter slope and flat top area, then calculating the resulting airspace volume.

The candidate should be technically minded, detail‐focused, practical and able to visualise proposed works in three dimensions. Landfill, lining, geosynthetics, panel layout and as‐built review experience is desirable.

Additional training will be provided upon request where it supports your development and helps improve the company's in‐house modelling and design capability.

The role also provides the opportunity to work with the broader BEC group, including BEC‐IWP, BEC Eastern Region and BEC Victoria. Interstate travel to meet the broader BEC teams and support specific office‐based project work may be available by agreement.

The role is based in the Balcatta office. Working from home may be available in consultation with management following successful completion of probation. The role is office‐based and does not involve routine site travel.

Key aspects of this role include:

Preparing 3D civil design models, surfaces, drawings, sections and design outputs.

Supporting landfill, waste management, tailings, bulk earthworks and geotechnical design projects.

Modelling embankments, landfill cells, capping profiles, ponds, drainage features, batters, benches and access ramps.

Calculating earthworks quantities, cut/fill volumes, airspace volumes and surface comparisons.

Preparing DXF, DWG, PDF and 3D model outputs for design, review, construction and client communication.

Interpreting engineering sketches, survey data, mark‐ups, design criteria and technical discussions.

Supporting landfill lining and capping works, including panel layout plans and review of as‐built or as‐constructed information.

Supporting the development of BEC‐IWP's in‐house 3D modelling, civil design and drafting capability.

Acting as a key modelling resource for BEC‐IWP, with opportunities to support BEC Eastern Region and BEC Victoria.

Liaising with engineers, project managers, surveyors, contractors and internal project teams.

Maintaining accurate drawing registers, design files, model versions and calculation records.

About you

We are looking for someone who is technically minded, practical, curious and willing to learn.

You will ideally have:

A Diploma, Advanced Diploma or equivalent experience in Civil Design, Drafting or a related discipline.

Between three to four years of relevant experience in civil design, 3D modelling, drafting, civil infrastructure, earthworks, geotechnical structures or related design work.

Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, or strong experience in similar civil modelling software.

Experience preparing 3D design models, surfaces, drawings, sections and quantity outputs.

Experience modelling bulk earthworks, embankments, ponds, dams, tailings storage facilities, landfill cells, roads, pads, platforms or other civil infrastructure.

Ability to interpret technical sketches, survey data, drawings, specifications and engineering mark‐ups.

Ability to prepare accurate design outputs, including DXF, DWG, PDF, volume calculations and model files.

The right to work in Australia.

Experience in any of the following areas would be highly regarded:

Landfill design, landfill construction, cell development, cell capping, lining works, leachate infrastructure or waste facility design.

Geosynthetic lining systems, panel layout plans, anchor trenches, liner interfaces and construction sequencing.

Review of as‐constructed and as‐built information.

Tailings dams, containment systems, bulk earthworks, embankments, ponds, dams or other geotechnical structures.

Survey data, drone survey, point clouds, machine control files or construction set‐out information.

QGIS, ArcGIS, Global Mapper, Recap, InfraWorks, 12d or other design and spatial software.

You will also bring:

Strong attention to detail.

Good written and verbal communication skills.

A practical and solutions‐focused mindset.

The ability to visualise proposed works and identify design or modelling issues.

Interest in helping develop a new in‐house modelling and design capability.

Willingness to undertake additional training where required.

Confidence to become the primary modelling resource for BEC‐IWP and, over time, support the broader BEC group.

Good time management and organisational skills.

The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

A professional, positive and open‐minded approach.

Willingness to learn and develop specialist landfill and waste infrastructure modelling skills.

If you are interested in joining a growing consulting business and developing specialist experience in landfill, waste management, civil modelling and environmental engineering design, please upload your CV and cover letter.
