About Tandem Tandem was established in 1994 and is the trusted voice of family and friends in mental health in Victoria. As the Victorian peak body with a sole focus on the needs and interests of mental health carers, Tandem provides leadership, coordination and knowledge for organisations and individuals working to improve outcomes for people living with mental health challenges, their family, carers and supporters. We are committed to ensuring the contribution, expertise, experiences and needs of family, carers and supporters are recognised — and that they are essential partners in recovery, service governance, planning, research and evaluation. Your role This is an exciting 0.8FTE opportunity to join a dynamic team and make a genuine impact on reform for family, carers and supporters across Victoria. As the Family Carer Workforce Training and Development Lead, a designated lived experience role, you will play a key part in ensuring the Mental Health and Wellbeing Connect centres implement a consistent model of care. Working closely with the Connect Coordination Victoria (CCV) team, you will collaborate with providers and sector experts to identify and prioritise workforce development needs, while supporting the centres to deliver safe, high-quality services that improve the wellbeing of family, carers and supporters. What you’ll be doing Your work will span four key areas: Workforce development — coordinate and deliver training programs and professional development that build capability and confidence across the Connect centres’ workforces, and facilitate Communities of Practice. Knowledge exchange and innovation — facilitate cross-regional collaboration, develop resources that translate research into practice, and support consistent recruitment, onboarding and workforce readiness across centres. Stakeholder engagement — build trusted relationships with Connect centre providers, government agencies and sector partners, and represent Tandem and CCV in sector forums and working groups. Evaluation and continuous improvement — maintain data systems, monitor learning and development activity, and use feedback and insights to refine programs and support system reform. What makes you ideal for this role? Lived experience as a family, carer or supporter of someone experiencing mental health challenges, this is a mandatory requirement of the role. Experience working in a family carer peer support role. Sound knowledge of Victoria’s mental health system, including relevant legislation pertaining to families, carers and supporters. Experience facilitating groups in educational, learning or professional exchange settings, including developing training resources for online and in-person delivery. Demonstrated ability to engage collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, from community members to government. Project management skills and proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite. Why join Tandem? This is a rare opportunity to use your lived experience to shape the workforce supporting families, carers and supporters across Victoria, at a pivotal moment in the state’s mental health reform. Join a values-led organisation where lived experience is central, not an afterthought. Hybrid working and flexible arrangements to support your caring responsibilities and life commitments.
