Talent Pool Creation for future Ongoing full time Correctional Officer roles

Security Operations Group (SOG) – Operations | K9 | Extreme High Security Escort Unit

Location: Statewide (Extreme High Security – SOG Metro only)

Salary Range – $75,151 - $89,070 pa plus incidental allowance between $1153 – $3458 pa

About the Role

This role provides a high standard of security, assistance and support to General Managers, Governors, senior management, and officers in charge of correctional centres within NSW to assist in the maintenance of good order, discipline, safety, and security of correctional centres. It involves providing continuous static and dynamic security in the containment and oversight of Extreme High Risk Restricted inmates and Extreme High Security offender activities, contributing to the safety, security, welfare, development and rehabilitation of inmates and the safety of the public, complying with courts and departmental policies.

The Security Operations Group maintains an exceptional operating standard for the management of critical incidents, high‐risk escorts, ensuring appropriate planning, threat assessments and operational decision‐making with specialised training. The group works closely with other external law enforcement agencies and key stakeholders, upholding CSNSW client service standards.

About You

You will have excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, resilience, a strong work ethic and a high level of integrity in line with CSNSW core values. You must be prepared to work a rotating roster, including weekend and shift work, travel to any location within NSW and, at times, spend extended periods away from your residence including after‐hours and emergency call‐outs. You will be required to pass the standard Security Operations Group fitness test prior to progressing to a selection day.

Essential Requirements

* Certificate III in Correctional Practice or appropriate and relevant custodial experience
* Completed and able to maintain the Security Operations Group fitness test
* Completed the Emergency Response Operators Course (EROC)
* Posses a valid NSW Driver's Licence and be able to drive official vehicles
* Maintain a high level of commitment to the role requirements
* Willingness to respond to serious incidents and work alongside other Security & Custody teams and external law enforcement agencies
* Work in partnership with the Immediate Action Teams
* Successfully complete any relevant training courses required to maintain proficiency within the Security Operations Group (Security Operations Group Induction Course)
* Have completed or be able to complete all requirements of the NSW Corrective Services Dog Handlers Course and be able to meet and maintain the standards of an operational CSNSW K9 handler
* Driver's Licence with ability and willingness to drive throughout NSW

Essential Certifications

* Hold or be willing to obtain relevant base qualifications required to undertake the role, including Glock 17, 9mm qualification and relevant firearm platforms
* Hold a Chemical Munitions Operations Certification (CMOC)
* Hold an Emergency Response Operators certification (EROC)

Additional Requirements Depending On Role Selection

* Meet satisfactory probity and National Security Clearances; applicants must be an Australian Citizen and obtain National Security Clearance to 'Secret' level within 6 months of appointment. If not, they will be assigned to a suitable Correctional Officer role.
* The successful K9 applicant must have completed or be able to complete all requirements of the CSNSW Dog Handlers Course, must be prepared to reside or relocate within 115 kilometres of the nominated K9 Unit Base, and must have a secure yard to house a CSNSW Dog.
* K9 applicants must have a residential yard or be prepared to relocate into a residential property with a yard within a set timeframe. A residential inspection will be conducted. Costs for yard upgrades are the applicant's responsibility. No other dogs, other than the departmental dog, may reside at the successful handler's residence unless approved by the SAS of the K9 Unit.
