Overview
Teacher - Humanities and Social Sciences role at Department of Education, Western Australia. We are seeking to establish a pool of HASS teachers with the ability to teach Economics and/or Politics and Law for permanent and fixed-term vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year.
Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Responsibilities
- Teach ATAR Economics and/or Politics and Law.
- Possess strong curriculum knowledge and create engaging, culturally responsive online materials to cater for student diversity.
- Assist in teaching lower secondary HASS; strong knowledge of the lower secondary HASS curriculum is highly regarded.
- Collaborate as part of a dynamic team and participate in developing online teaching practices; relevant training and support are provided.
- Travel to meet student and partner school needs as part of SIDE’s regional travel program when required.
About SIDE
The School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) is an online school providing education to students who need flexibility. SIDE uses synchronous (Webex) and asynchronous (Moodle) platforms and offers a training and support program for staff.
There are multiple facilities and venues, with a main campus in Leederville and teaching facilities at several locations. The school aims to deliver high-quality, inclusive, culturally responsive programs in a blended learning environment.

Eligibility
- Hold an eligible teacher qualification and registration.
- Be an Australian or Current Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with work rights for the term of the appointment.

- Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.
