The Role:
As Head of Visual Art and Design, you will lead a passionate team and champion high-impact teaching and learning. You'll drive curriculum development in Visual Communication Design, foster cross-curricular connections, and support contemporary practice, including digital, laser-cutting and 3-D printing. You'll build teacher capability, model professional excellence, and maintain a child-safe, respectful environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop, implement, and review visual arts curriculum (Years 7 to 12, including VCE/VET)
* Lead and mentor a team of teachers, fostering a culture of feedback and collaboration
* Champion diverse and contemporary teaching strategies
* Oversee assessment, reporting, and documentation
* Lead departmental meetings and engage stakeholders
* Plan, coordinate, attend subject-related tours, including overseas tours
* Manage annual budget and resources
* Represent Strathcona at events
Selection Criteria:
* Experience teaching Visual Communication Design at VCE level
* VIT registration and demonstrated child safety knowledge
* Strong knowledge of contemporary learning theories and art/design technologies
* Outstanding interpersonal and leadership skills
* Ability to prepare and manage budgets and resources
* Curriculum design and team coordination experience
* VET qualifications highly regarded
* Adobe Suite and relevant digital/design technology proficiency
