Diesel Motor Mechanic

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic to service, maintain and repair a diverse fleet of vehicles, plant and equipment. This hands‐on role involves both workshop and on‐site work, diagnosing complex mechanical, hydraulic and electrical faults, implementing repairs and improvements, and supporting safe, reliable fleet operations. You will also contribute to training apprentices and providing technical advice to operators and supervisors.
Key Responsibilities
* Service vehicles, plant and equipment in line with maintenance schedules
* Diagnose hydraulic, electrical and mechanical faults and determine effective repair solutions
* Remove, disassemble, measure, assemble and refit mechanical components and assemblies
* Repair, manufacture or modify parts and components to improve reliability and serviceability
* Design and fabricate equipment or items not otherwise available
* Carry out repairs in the workshop and on site as required
* Assist in training apprentices in mechanical theory, practical repairs and equipment operation
* Assess and advise on the safety and serviceability of vehicles and equipment
* Provide guidance to operators on correct operating procedures to maximise equipment life
* Maintain accurate daily work records, timesheets and maintenance documentation
* Ensure all work meets safety, serviceability and legal requirements
Key Requirements
* Trade qualification as a Diesel Motor Mechanic
* Extensive post‐qualification experience in fleet maintenance of heavy vehicles and plant
* Strong knowledge and experience in complex hydraulic and electrical fault diagnosis
* Heavy Rigid (HR)/Medium Rigid (MR) driver's licence Desirable
* Forklift licence Desirable
* Ability to plan and organise own work and meet required timeframes
* Sound written and verbal communication skills
* Commitment to safe work practices, use of PPE and quality workmanship
* Professional, respectful approach with the ability to work effectively in a team
