Teacher Flying Squad (for Permanent Teachers) - Category 1A - 2026 Appointment Pool
This position is available only to staff currently employed by the Department of Education.
Are you an enthusiastic, resilient, flexible, and adventurous educator looking for an exciting opportunity to work in a range of schools across rural, remote, and regional Western Australia? We are seeking applications from eligible, qualified early childhood, primary and secondary teachers available during the 2026 school year.
As a member of the Flying Squad of skilled teachers, you will interact with students across diverse social, physical, and educational settings and experience work in diverse classroom settings where each appointment is different. You will also receive free accommodation, travel to and from appointments and other incentives and allowances.
About the Role
Flying squad teachers are an important part of our workforce, playing a crucial role in filling short‐term vacancies in regional and remote schools across the State. The appointments are short term, generally for periods of five to 10 weeks in a range of schools with differing needs.
You will receive a dislocation allowance worth $16,500 per annum, paid fortnightly. This allowance is granted in lieu of any other location‐based allowances. As a Category 1A Teacher Flying Squad member, you may be required to travel, often on short notice, to selected regional and remote locations to fill critical vacancies and, on occasion, work outside your area of qualification for brief periods.
Is this right for me?
Success in this role depends on developing positive relationships with students quickly, strong curriculum knowledge, and effective classroom management strategies. You must be flexible, adaptive, and able to think on your feet, travel on short notice, and adjust to life in different towns and communities, engaging positively with non‐urban settings.
Due to the short‐term nature of the accommodation provided, it is very unlikely that pets can travel with you to each location.
