Role Overview
WesTrac's Machine Shop is looking for competent First-Class Machinists to support both internal workshops and external customers. The role offers a pathway to Field Service positions and requires the ability to interpret engineering drawings with dimensional tolerances, prioritise workloads, maintain a high safety standard, and achieve customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
* Operate and maintain CNC and manual machine tools, including lathes, milling machines, horizontal and vertical borers, cylindrical and surface grinding machines.
* Provide machining support to internal workshops and external customers.
* Interpret engineering drawings and dimensional tolerances to ensure high‐quality production.
* Prioritise workload effectively, managing time and safety considerations.
* Maintain safety standards and help foster a safety‐first culture.
Qualifications
* Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade with post‐trade experience.
* Prior experience with manual and CNC machining, including lathes, milling machines, horizontal and vertical borers, cylindrical and surface grinding, and surface coatings (Laser, HVOF and Metal Spraying).
* Basic computer skill set.
* Strong interpersonal, communication and time‐management skills.
* Nationally accredited Forklift, Dogman and Working at Height tickets are desirable.
* Familiarity with Caterpillar equipment is highly regarded.
Roster & Remuneration
Roster Pattern: 5D2O x2 & 5N2O x2 (Monday to Thursday 10.5‐hour shifts, Friday 8.5‐hour shifts). Rates are guide only and will be assessed based on competency and experience. Delayed starts available.
