PULP MAGAZINE EDITORIAL TEAM 2026/2027

UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY UNION (USU)

PULP Magazine is a bold, student-led cultural platform celebrating art, literature, comedy, photography, fashion, music, film, politics, and contemporary student life.

We are creative, curious, and unapologetically expressive.

Now, we’re recruiting the next PULP Editorial Team for 2026/2027!

Eligibility Requirement

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

All applicants must be currently enrolled students at the University of Sydney and hold active USU Membership for the duration of the appointment.

As a 7-person Paid Editorial Team, You Will

Edit, design and produce 6 high-quality print magazines (3 per semester)Create engaging content for PULP’s digital platforms and social channelsShape the creative direction of one of USYD’s most iconic student publicationsBuild real-world experience in publishing, media, events and content strategy

This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience while studying, develop your creative portfolio, and be part of something culturally impactful on campus.

ROLES AVAILABLE

1 x Editorial Lead

The Editorial Lead plays a key coordination role within the team, guiding publication timelines, supporting creative direction, and ensuring quality and consistency across each issue.

6 x Editors

Each Editor holds the dual portfolio of Magazine Editor plus one of the following:

Digital Portfolio(3 roles)Events and Engagement Portfolio (1 role)Design Portfolio (2 roles)

Key Responsibilities

Contribute to the production of 6 high-quality print publicationsMeet all editorial and production deadlinesEnsure work is factually accurate, polished, and aligned to PULP’s style guideParticipate in key USU events and build collaborations across campusContribute to audience growth across print, web and social platformsComplete administrative tasks including fact-checking, proofing, uploading and packaging files

Essential Criteria

Demonstrated experience in writing for different styles and audiencesStrong attention to detail and editorial accuracyAbility to collaborate effectively and meet deadlinesInterest in editing, publishing, digital media, events and/or designKnowledge of Australian arts, culture, and/or student mediaExcellent written and verbal communication skillsHigh level of cultural competenceCurrent USYD enrolment and active USU MembershipEligibility to work in Australia

HOURS OF WORK

10 hours per week, May 2026 - 29 May 2027

(Exact commencement date to be confirmed following recruitment.)

THE PAY

Editorial Lead: $37.68 per hour + 12% superannuation

Editor Role: $35.67 per hour + 12% superannuation

Additional Benefits

Come meet the current editorial team, learn more about the roles, and connect with other students looking to form a team for 2026/2027. We’ll also run a short pitch workshop to help you prepare a strong application.

Issue 26 Launch Event @ location TBC

Celebrate the launch of Issue 26 and connect with like-minded creatives. This event is a great opportunity to meet potential teammates and speak with the current PULP team about the application process.

Job Information Drop In Day @ PULP Office, Wentworth Building, Level 1/G01 City Rd Office

Drop in to the PULP office and speak with members of the editorial team and get advice on how to apply.

The Editorial Lead will submit the whole application of behalf of your team.

About The Usu

The USU (University of Sydney Union) is proudly Australia’s oldest and largest not-for-profit student organisation, dedicated to providing students with the best possible university experience.
