The Green Square Urgent Care Service (GSUCS) was established in July **** in collaboration with the NSW Government and Central and Eastern Sydney Primary Health Network, to bridge the gap between urgent general practice care, and our emergency departments.
Our goal is to triage and treat patients who are residents of NSW and hold a Medicare card for clinical care that requires treatment: within 2-12 hours Is not a clear life threatening emergency Can not wait until the next day to see their regular doctor or a local clinic Is considered medically urgent You will be working with an administration officer and a general practitioner with urgent care experience to help deliver this care in a timely manner.
Patients will: present to GSUCS via Healthdirect referral, or by walking in They are then assessed for initial eligibility, and are triaged by the nurse After assessing the degree of urgency, they will await assessment and treatment by the GP if appropriate, or care is escalated higher if needed At the completion of each episode, the GP will handover patient care back to the regular GP with a written discharge summary and plan Key Responsibilities of the UCS nurse: Assess patient history and triage into appropriate categories at around 15 minutes per patient or shorter Communicate effectively with patients to obtain focused presentation histories and explain treatments if required Escalate urgent cases to doctors as a priority Apply basic initial treatments (e.g., dressing, wound cleaning, simple analgesia) Document triage history with precision and detail Requirements: Qualifications as a Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration 1+ years of experience in urgent care or emergency nursing Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work in a fast-paced environment The right to work in Australia You'll be successful if you have: Strong decision-making skills under pressure A passion for patient care and education Adaptability and resilience Commitment to continuous learning and improvement Ability to cannulate, draw blood, or the willingness to learn these via supported training What We Offer: A clinic with organised systems for processes, training, guidelines, and feedback A collaborative team environment Focus on staff wellbeing and valuing team member contributions Competitive compensation package ($******** per hour for FT/PT - $43-$50 for casual as well as afternoon and weekend penalty rates) Flexible shifts across our opening hours Opportunities for professional growth and development The chance to make a difference in our community by optimising urgent care services How to Apply: Submit your resume with a detailed career history, including key accomplishments for each role Be prepared to complete a short questionnaire if shortlisted Expect a face to face or teleconference (video) interview if selected after shortlisting Have contact information ready for at least two current or former supervisors willing to provide references (we'll only contact them with your permission at the final stage of job offer)
