Visiting Medical Officer – Gastroenterologist – Transform Care Across MLHD
About The Opportunity
An exciting chance exists for an experienced and motivated Visiting Medical Officer in Gastroenterology and Hepatology to join the specialist team at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital, Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD).
In this role, you will deliver contemporary, comprehensive Gastroenterology services that support safe, effective, and patient-centred care. You will also play a key part in supervising clinicians, contributing to service development, and supporting high standards of clinical education across the District.
You will additionally participate in the General Medicine on-call roster, contributing to a collaborative and highly skilled physician group.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Provide high-quality, evidence-based Gastroenterology and Hepatology services across MLHD.
- Undertake the supervision, education, and mentoring of junior medical staff and other clinicians.
- Participate in the General Medicine on-call roster at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital.
- Contribute to clinical governance, risk management, and quality improvement programs.
- Provide expert clinical advice to support service development and system improvement.
- Utilise information systems to support safe and informed clinical decision-making.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure coordinated, patient-centred care.
- Attend departmental meetings and support medical administration as required.
What We’re Looking For
- Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, including FRACP.
- High-level clinical communication skills, including the effective use of information technology.
- Extensive experience and demonstrated competency in contemporary specialist Gastroenterology practice.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and provide appropriate clinical leadership.
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research, and quality improvement.
- Availability to participate in the General Medicine on-call roster, with onsite response within a reasonable timeframe.
- Commitment to NSW Health CORE Values and the values and strategic goals of MLHD.
- Holds a valid Working With Children Check, National Criminal Record Check, and meets Vaccination Category A requirements.
