Factor UTB is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing engineering team in Adelaide. This role will focus on the design, development, and delivery of mechanical systems and equipment for water and wastewater treatment facilities across Australia.
Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute across the full project lifecycle — from tendering and design through to fabrication, installation, commissioning, and operational support.

Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical Design & Engineering
Design mechanical systems and components for water and wastewater treatment facilities, including pumps, piping systems, valves, tanks, and specialised process equipment.
Perform mechanical design calculations, equipment sizing, and equipment selection.
Develop 3D models, detailed drawings, and technical specifications using CAD software.
Prepare fabrication drawings and manufacturing documentation.
Develop installation methodologies, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) manuals.
Support prototype development and ensure designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Technical Support & Project Delivery
Provide technical support throughout all project phases including tendering, design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and operations.
Troubleshoot mechanical issues and implement corrective actions and design improvements.
Collaborate with internal engineering teams, suppliers, fabricators, and site personnel to ensure successful project outcomes.
Compliance & Quality Assurance
Ensure all designs and installations comply with relevant Australian standards, industry regulations, and project specifications.
Participate in risk assessments and contribute to safe work practices and safety improvements.
Support quality assurance processes to maintain high standards of workmanship, reliability, and safety.
Documentation & Reporting
Prepare and maintain detailed engineering documentation, reports, manuals, and records.
Maintain accurate records of design revisions and operational modifications.
About You
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
Proficiency in CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Ansys, or similar.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.
Experience within the Australian water or wastewater treatment industry.
Knowledge of mechanical systems used in treatment facilities.
Hands-on experience with mechanical installation or site works.
Understanding of Australian standards, codes, and regulations including Building Code and WSAA guidelines.
Knowledge of fabrication processes, materials selection, and installation methodologies.
