Waverley Council is seeking a creative Urban Designer to help shape one of Sydney's most vibrant and iconic areas – home to Bondi Beach, bustling commercial centres, and thriving residential communities.As a part of the Urban Planning team, you will play a key role in shaping the built environment, enhancing public spaces, and delivering sustainable, people-focused design outcomes

In this role you will:

* Assist and/or provide assistance on strategic planning for improved urban design and, where necessary, to prepare urban design guidelines for projects within the Waverley Local Government Area.
* Act as project manager with planning, programming and coordination of projects to ensure that project outputs meet or exceed agreed goals.
* Develop project plans and strategies for the completion of major projects including identification of business resource requirements.
* Provide urban design referrals on development applications
* Undertake technical and quality reviews of documentation prepared by the planning team to ensure that documentation and service levels meet or exceed client's expectations.
* Foster client relationships and identify business opportunities.
* Grow, develop and mentor junior staff.

About You

* A Minimum of 3 years post graduate experience in Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Town or Urban Planning industry or related field.
* Tertiary qualifications in Architecture, Urban Design, Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent.
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience in urban design in a planning context including undertaking urban design studies or similar projects.
* Demonstrated ability to project manage, meet performance targets and manage multiple projects concurrently.
* Ability to deliver innovative and effective urban design and public domain solutions, through technical advice, guidelines and policy
* Experienced in writing project briefs, engaging consultants and developing and overseeing a project from concept phase through to implementation
* Research and analyse urban design plans, data and trends, and integrate with land use planning, transport planning, urban design, economic development, environmental and social outcomes and place-based information.
* Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a team and independently.
* Excellent verbal and written skills include report writing skills and presentation skills and an ability to balance community, political, social, environmental, and commercial interests and make sound judgments.
* Demonstrated experience in community consultation and quality customer service.
* Advanced negotiation and conflict resolution skills, including the ability to mediate outcomes and liaise with community focus/precinct groups.
* Highly developed skills and experience in the preparation and implementation of community consultation programs, including presentations to public forums.
* Demonstrated ability to meet performance targets and manage multiple projects.
* Demonstrated high level of information technology skills including CAD software including Vector works, Google SketchUp, the Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
* Ability to attend out-of-hour meetings when required.
