Power and Water Corporation is a Northern Territory Government owned utility that operates across a geographic area of 1.3 million square kilometres and within a range of diverse environmental conditions, ranging from the arid dry of the central desert to the tropical monsoon of the top end. The corporation generates, transmits and distributes electricity, supplies water and wastewater treatment services across the Northern Territory (NT) for the benefit of residents, including remote and isolated Aboriginal communities and outstations.
Bring your electrical trade qualifications or power system expertise to the heart of the Northern Territory’s energy network. At Power and Water, we’re looking for motivated professionals to join our System Control team — the team who keep the Territory’s lights on.
In this role, you’ll make real‑time decisions that matter; from planned and unplanned events to market operations and dispatch. You’ll work across Generation, Transmission and Distribution systems, ensuring the secure and reliable operation of power for communities right across the NT.
Key Responsibilities:
* Technical: Manage power system within technical envelope ensuring secure, safe and efficient operation. Respond to system emergencies; formulate system restoration strategies and contingency plans.
* Planning: Plan, approve and direct all High Voltage operations ensuring power system security is managed. Plan, prepare, implement and coordinate switching programs. Log and record system information.

Ideal Candidate:
* Possess an AQF Certificate III or equivalent skills, knowledge and experience in the Electrical Distribution and Transmission Industry.
* Demonstrate ability to interpret and analyse power system protection and respond appropriately.
* Demonstrate high‑quality decision‑making, prioritisation and independent action; recognise potential and actual problems; apply logic to secure relevant information and data from different sources to identify cause and resolution.
* Knowledge and experience in operation and control of an integrated power system, network operations, security assessments, implementing plant outages, switching procedures, managing system emergencies and restoration.
* Understand regulated power system legislation and operations.
* Demonstrated ability to take part in a 24×7 roster as the lead of a small team in a busy environment.
* Detailed knowledge of Power and Water’s Power System and Safety Rules.
* Knowledge of NT power systems regulatory, legislative, market and code requirements.
* Skills in identifying opportunities to improve systems and procedures.
* Experience in operations and dispatch of generation plant in an interconnected power system.
* Appreciation of the water distribution, sewerage services and call‑out procedures.
