Overview
Engineering Manager – Mecensol (Hedweld Group of Companies)
Hedweld Engineering is a proud family-owned and world-renowned regional Australian innovator and manufacturer. For over 40 years, we've been producing world-leading products for the mining sector globally, best known for our Trilift range of component handling equipment and Safe-Away range of access systems.
Mecensol is the dedicated engineering firm within the Hedweld Group of Companies – it's where our design, product development, and technical innovation come to life. We're now looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the Mecensol team at our Mount Thorley site.
This is a unique opportunity for someone who wants to combine leadership with technical involvement – guiding a talented team while also rolling up your sleeves on meaningful projects.
In this role, you will
Lead, mentor, and support the engineering team.
Take a hands-on role with engineering calculations, FEA analysis, risk assessments, and technical documentation.
Guide the development of supporting materials such as HAZOPs, QA documentation, O&M manuals, and detailed reports.
Manage new product requests, using our stage gate process to assess viability.
Liaise with Certifying Engineers, production teams, and external specialists to deliver safe and compliant solutions.
Oversee R&D activities, ensuring documentation aligns with ATO requirements for R&D incentive claims.
Review and approve technical documentation, engineering requests, and third-party product evaluations.
Keep projects on track – managing budgets, timelines, and deliverables while reviewing and approving outputs.
Contribute to our strong safety culture by leading toolbox talks, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.
What we're looking for
We're after someone who is both technically capable and people-focused – a leader who's just as comfortable mentoring a team as they are rolling up their sleeves on the technical side.
You'll need to bring:
A degree in Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering (or similar), with exposure to structural and/or machined components.
At least 5 years' engineering experience and 5 years' leadership/management experience.
Strong software capability – AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, and Vault Pro.
Intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
Proven people leadership skills and the ability to develop and inspire others.
Great communication skills and confidence liaising with clients, suppliers, and colleagues.
Strong time management – juggling multiple projects at once doesn't faze you.
A current driver's licence.
It'd be a bonus if you also have
Experience in heavy earthmoving or mining industries.
A background in machine design (hydraulics, PLC control systems, and complex mechanical builds).
Knowledge of safe machine design principles and risk assessment.
Experience producing technical documentation in a heavy mechanical environment.
Familiarity with Australian Standards for lifting equipment, fabrication, and mechanical structures (AS ****, AS ****, AS ****, AS ****).
What we can offer you
A state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Mount Thorley.
Access to the latest design and analysis software
Four-day roster available (Monday–Thursday: 6am–4pm).
Fully equipped onsite gym facilities.
The opportunity to broaden your skills and experience in a globally recognised, innovative business.
A supportive, values-driven culture that prioritises safety, people, and excellence.
As part of the recruitment process, suitable applicants will be required to attend a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol testing.
