Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania's largest hospital, and the Haematology Department within the RHH is the tertiary referral centre for all haematology and haemostasis testing in Tasmania.
As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH works closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions, delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, workforce, and the Tasmanian community.
Responsibilities
* Oversee and coordinate daily operations and staff within the Haematology and Coagulation sections of the Core Laboratory.
* Perform routine and specialised diagnostic pathology tests with accurate and full documentation of results and reports.
* Interpret laboratory results, ensuring all result and process verification procedures are complied with, and liaise with the requesting medical and nursing staff as appropriate.
Qualifications
* Demonstrated practical experience and theoretical knowledge relevant to diagnostic haematology and coagulation testing and interpretation of results.
* Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including the ability to organise, plan and coordinate staff and oversee the daily operations of a pathology laboratory.
* Demonstrated knowledge of the regulatory and accreditation requirements relevant to Haematology and Coagulation testing and proven capability to implement and maintain such standards.
Appointment Details
* Permanent full‐time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. Hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
* The selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar vacancies for a period of twelve months from the date of publication.
Salary
Annual base salary: $117,272 to $126,182 per annum, with a 12% superannuation contribution on top. Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No. 2 of 2025.
Salary Packaging
Access to a salary package including living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year, plus other benefits if eligible.

* Access to salaries beyond $126,182 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme.

Eligibility
* Tertiary qualification in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Science, Applied Science, or equivalent suitable to the position from a recognised institution.
* Eligible for membership with a relevant professional body such as the Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists, Australasian Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine, Australian Society for Microbiology, Human Genetics Society of Australasia, or the Australian Society of Cytology.

* Relevant postgraduate qualifications in the field of activity of the Department.
* Demonstrated commitment to continuous professional development and evidence of an ongoing professional contribution.
* Demonstrated management and communication skills.
