Data Architect
Reporting to the Manager, Data, Analytics and AI, the Data Architect is responsible for defining, governing, and assuring Sandfire Resources' enterprise data architecture to enable trusted, secure, and scalable use of data across operational, financial, safety, sustainability, and corporate domains.
This role ensures Sandfire's data platforms and data flows support decision‐making at Board, executive, and operational levels while meeting security, regulatory, and governance expectations appropriate to a publicly listed mining organisation. The Data Architect acts as the architectural authority for data‐related initiatives and ensures data is treated as a strategic asset across the business.
Duties / Responsibilities
* Define and maintain Sandfire's enterprise data architecture, including conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
* Establish reference architectures for key data patterns, including:
o Operational data from mine sites and plant systems
o Corporate and financial systems (e.g., ERP)
o Analytics, reporting, and AI/advanced analytics use cases
* Ensure data designs support scalability, resilience, and long‐term asset lifecycle requirements.
* Provide architectural leadership for Sandfire's Azure data platform, including cloud‐based analytics and data services.
* Define approved patterns for data ingestion, transformation, storage, and consumption.
* Define and enforce data standards, including data modelling conventions, metadata, data quality, and master/reference data principles.
* Support implementation of Sandfire's data governance framework, including data ownership, stewardship, classification, and lifecycle management.
* Act as the architectural authority for data initiatives, including project design reviews and vendor solution assessments.
* Identify data‐related risks, technical debt, and improvement opportunities.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in information technology, computer science or related discipline.
* Strong capability in:
o Enterprise data modelling (conceptual, logical, physical, dimensional modelling)
o Data warehousing / lakehouse medallion architectures
o Data integration patterns (batch, streaming, APIs)
* Experience designing data solutions on Azure cloud platform.
* Demonstrated understanding of data governance, information security, and compliance in regulated environments.
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence across business and technology teams.
* Hands‐on experience with the Azure data platform.
Desirable
* Experience in mining, resources, energy, or asset‐intensive industries.
* Familiarity with cybersecurity and control frameworks relevant to Australian enterprises.
* Architecture or cloud certifications (e.g. TOGAF, Azure Solutions Architect).
