The Automation Technician is responsible for supporting the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimisation of industrial automation and control systems. This role plays a hands-on part in ensuring the smooth and reliable operation of automated equipment and processes across client sites. The Automation Technician will work closely with engineers, electricians, and project teams to deliver high-quality outcomes that meet technical, safety, and efficiency requirements.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
* Install, configure, test, and maintain automation equipment and control systems.
* Assist with the commissioning of PLCs, SCADA, HMIs, and other automation platforms.
* Troubleshoot and repair automation system faults to minimise downtime.
* Perform routine preventative maintenance and inspections on automated systems.
* Support integration of sensors, actuators, drives, and other automation components.
* Follow electrical and automation schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings.
* Document work completed, including maintenance logs, fault reports, and configuration updates.
* Provide hands-on support to operational teams during production or system deployment.
* Ensure all work complies with relevant electrical and safety standards.
* Stay updated with emerging automation technologies and best practices.
* Travel to client sites for installation, commissioning, and service work, with occasional living-away requirements as necessary.

Experience, Skills and Knowledge
* Minimum 3 years proven experience in automation, electrical maintenance, or a related role.
* Hands-on experience with industrial automation and control systems (PLC, SCADA, HMI).
* Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and automation diagrams.
* Strong fault-finding, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.
* Basic programming knowledge in PLC platforms (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider) is desirable.
* Trade qualification in Electrical, Automation, or related discipline (Electrical Licence preferred).
* Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
