We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Laboratory Technician to join an R&D team developing advanced solutions for green iron technology. The focus is on green energy and carbon neutrality targets. This role is based in the northern suburbs of Perth.
This is a great opportunity to develop your chemistry experience, providing scientific/technical support and service activities in a research laboratory setting. The contract is 3‐month casual, full‐time hours, Monday‐Friday during normal business hours.
Responsibilities
* Support hydrometallurgical tests such as leaching, precipitation, filtration and impurity removal.
* Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis and characterisation of samples, raw materials, reagents, and products using laboratory techniques (e.g., XRD, SEM, ICP, IC, titration) under guidance of senior team members.
* Follow standard test procedures and assist chemists, metallurgist and engineers.
* Record and report results accurately in laboratory notebook or spreadsheet.
* Adhere strictly to laboratory safety procedures and chemical handling protocols.
* Use appropriate PPE and participate in risk assessments.
* Support the team to engage with vendors for sourcing of materials and, where applicable, provide input into the development of products suited to Fortescue needs.
* Assist in managing laboratory supplies, including stocks of materials, chemicals, and waste disposal.
Qualifications
* Background in industrial chemistry, mineral processing, or materials science is preferred.
* Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Metallurgy or related discipline, or Certificate IV with more than 5 years industry laboratory experience.
* 1‐3 years industry laboratory experience.
* Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to adapt to changing priorities and operate effectively in a fast‐paced environment whilst maintaining a strong focus on safety.
* Experience in analytical methods and characterisation techniques.
* Experience in industrial production laboratories handling hazardous materials.
* Exhibits enthusiasm with a "can do" attitude, self‐motivated and ability to work on own initiative.
* Proficient Microsoft Office skills and other analytical equipment software.
