Offer description

About the Role

We are looking for a hands‐on Race Day Technician to join our Sydney team. This is a practical, on‐the‐ground role with race day support as the hard requirement, combined with equipment assembly, testing and repair work across the rest of the week.

On race days you will be on‐course at Sydney venues, primarily Randwick and Rosehill, supporting our timing, tracking and weather systems alongside the race day operations team. Between race meetings you will be in our Frenchs Forest workshop assembling, testing and repairing GPS tags, batteries, on‐course hardware and associated equipment, ready for the next round of meetings.

This role suits someone who is comfortable with their hands, installing, drilling, wiring, swapping batteries, checking voltages and who is just as comfortable working through a Windows software application to test and configure equipment. No coding or Linux experience is required.

What You Will Do

Race Day Support (Primary)

* Attend Sydney race meetings (primarily Randwick and Rosehill) as the on‐site technician for timing, tracking and weather equipment.
* Set up, monitor and pack down GPS tracking, timing and weather hardware on race day.
* Carry out pre‐race checks such as battery condition and voltage, tag function, connectivity, sensor and weather station status.
* Diagnose and resolve hardware issues on‐course during a meeting, with calm and care under live event pressure.
* Support the race day operators where hardware or equipment is involved.
* Follow site safety procedures and maintain transparent service records for each meeting.

Equipment Assembly, Testing & Repair

* Assemble GPS tags and other on‐course equipment in the Frenchs Forest workshop.
* Test assembled equipment using our Windows‐based configuration and testing applications.
* Diagnose and repair faulty units: battery replacement, low‐voltage electronics, cabling, connectors and housings.
* Use hand tools and basic power tools (drills, drivers, multimeter, soldering where required) safely and accurately.
* Keep the workshop and tools tidy, organised and ready for the next build or repair run.

Equipment Preparation & Logistics

* Prepare equipment kits for upcoming race meetings: charging, configuring, packing and labelling.
* Manage stock of tags, batteries, cables and consumables; flag low stock to the team.
* Help maintain storage areas so equipment is easy to find, easy to track and ready to deploy.
* Support occasional maintenance visits to Sydney racecourses (within roughly two hours of Frenchs Forest) using the company vehicle.

What We Are Looking For

Essential

* Practical, hands‐on background, for example: electronics, electrical, IT hardware, audio/visual, automotive, telecoms, maintenance, trades or a similar field.
* Comfortable using hand tools and basic power tools (drills, drivers, multimeters, soldering).
* Confident working with low‐voltage electronics and batteries (no high‐voltage / mains work in this role).
* Comfortable using Windows‐based software applications to configure and test equipment.
* Methodical, careful approach to testing, repair and documentation.
* Calm and professional in live event environments.
* Available Tuesday to Saturday, with flexibility for early starts, late finishes and the occasional public holiday around race meetings.
* Valid Australian driver's licence and ability to drive a company vehicle to Sydney racecourses.
* Reasonable physical ability, lifting and carrying equipment, working outdoors at racecourses in varied weather.

Nice to Have

* Experience with GPS, RF, telemetry or wireless devices.
* Soldering and small‐scale electronics rework experience.
* Experience supporting live events, sports timing or broadcast environments.
* Elevated Work Platform (EWP) ticket or Work Safely at Heights certification.
* Basic networking awareness (routers, switches, cabling).
* Previous experience in racing or another live operational industry.

What This Role Is Not

This role is not a software development or systems engineering role. There is no Linux, no coding and no responsibility for the cloud platform ‐ those areas are owned by our engineering and operations teams. The focus is firmly hands‐on: race day support, equipment assembly, testing and repair, with Windows software used as a tool rather than something you build.

Why Join Us

You will be a visible and valued part of every Sydney race meeting we support, working with equipment that goes live in front of racing clubs, broadcasters and wagering operators. You will have a balanced week between racecourse work and structured workshop time, a company vehicle for race day travel, and the chance to grow your technical skills across GPS, timing and weather technology in a small, focused team.
